I'm sure this is tough, and their cover of "Steppin' Stone" is almost amazing...if the bass player was actually playing the right song!

This is a little off topic but I thought it to be interesting to share. I wonder if it is actually an honest auction:

I saw that too... Sure, it's legit. Some of those Paramount Blues 78s are insanely rare. I was raised about 25 miles from Port Washington, Wi. A small burg right on Lake Michigan, made up of all Whites. In the 20s/30s Black Bluesmen used to make the 4 hour trek from Chicago to record there. All pressed in small quantities and few still exist today.

The winner of the Tommy Johnson 78 is John Tefteller. He will pick it up in person. Probably a weekly event for him to do something like that. His website had a label scan of the record that was pretty worn, I don't know if he had the other one (supposedly the beat copy was the only known one, it was used for the reissue, but I don't know if there are one or two more out there in privacy).

I figured it might have been him. I don't know him, but I've seen his website and read countless articles about his record buying adventures. He certainly has one impressive 78 blues collection. I wonder what will happen to Joe Bussard's Black Patti No. 8030 - Long Cleve Reed and Little Harvey Hull - Original Stack O' Lee Blues . Only one known so I've read, speaking of significant one off's.

I heard (yesterday) from a well-in-the know 45s wheeler-dealer that the seller of the Tommy Johnson 78 has more pre-war blues 78s, and that Tefteller's nice offer via his bid was the key to get in the door to look at the 78s and have 1st dibs. Apparently he had been trying to do so in the past.

Didn't John have a big score of 78's like this in the past. Someone recently told me that's how he got to the "big time"...
