G45 Ebay Watch

It seems every time I look eBay these days, it's dominated by the three most annoying sellers. I keep seeing the same overpriced records everyday. I mean, wtf :wtf:

Speaking of this, whats the story on that thomasfunk seller on ebay? The guy that has tons of killer garage 45's all priced BIN at extremely high and irregular numbers? Perhaps this has been discussed here before, but Ive wondered about this seller for some time.

We recently discussed him at some length on the 2014 roundup thread.

I remember bringing this up some time ago, I wrote about what a great collection he must have had before selling so much off, and someone pointed out it should be considered inventory, not a collection, and I think that's accurate.

He does have a damn lot of nice 45s for offer. But the prices are often extreme, yes.

By saying "inventory" are we implying that these records did not originally belong to the person selling them on ebay? I got the vibe that they may have belonged to a collector who had started at least in the 80's and perhaps got someone consign his collection online? That would help explain the prices, but still!

He is a collector, still buys. All the ebay 45s are his own. he doesn't care if he sells them, he insists on getting his price.
In the '90s, he was notorious for bidding on everything, but never paid right away, if at all. When i visited BW in the '90s, there were three white boxes of garage 45s that Mr Funk had won from auctions but had not paid for. Apparently his eyes seemed far bigger than his wallet. However, I've also heard from reliable sources that he does have the finances to be able to afford his purchases.

I have bought a couple of "I must have them, and don't care how much I pay" tunes from him recently. They arrived in good time, and were as good as, if not better than he had described. So if you really want a record, and are as stupid as me, he is a good dealer.

He proved to be a real nuisance back in the HK collection sale era. He somehow managed to have many items on "hold" that remained in that state for years... Did manage to extract a certain JIN 2 sider from limbo with a BOLD offer.

his prices are high indeed, but the condition is always spot on, often better as described. as a buyer, he always sends payment super quick.

His grading is very hard to figure because a lot of his records he lists in "good" or "G" condition are actually in literally good shape, not the grading definition of "good". I remember how perplexed I was when I first started checking out record lists and discovered that good meant awful!

one thing is for sure.most of the time.you will not be disappointed in his grading.also if you look at his list he sends out to your email and are patient you will find some reasonably priced records

I bought a record off him a year ago which was graded "vg+" and turned out to be visually "g". I only will buy "m-" off him now as that's the only grade of his I've found to translate to an acceptable condition.
