One man's $1000 rekkid is another man's (Boss) freebeeI definitetly will let you know if I see one come up. At one time I had a vg- spare (with wol?), but I must have given it away.

That's a bootleg, right?Outside_Lookin_in said:Actually this looks more like a classical case of shill bidding: http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidderProfile&mode=1&item=262340878746&aid=0***1&eu=&bidtid=1789030703016&view=NONE&ssPageName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink
As always, thank you for the invaluable information, Mike.MopTopMike said:Nope, it's the real deal. The trail out groove is a quick circumference revolution / wind on the original, it looks like one groove. Likewise, the lead in groove revolves several times before the song begins, so if you look at the scan it seems as if there are four grooves in the lead in space. The bootleg is the opposite; the lead in groove is tighter and only revolves two times (two groove lines). The fadeout winds several revolutions so it looks like at least 3 grooves.
Report the item to ebay and mention shill bidding?
Or call them, I did once and got them to end an item based on the bidder's bidding pattern and history.
Here is one nobody will shill bid on.
Whenever I stumble across these "Never seen a copy in 30 years" claims but no sound clip is offered, it's a 99% guarantee that the record is anything but a monster / killer. Logic befitting of a total moron.
Think the buy it now is a fair offer?

This "Florida" acetate sounds a lot like the Cavemen (Rochester, NY). Am I right?

The 45 is mastered extremely lo-fi. Not the worst I've heard, but places within the Top 10 lousiest / lo-fi masterings.
It certainly was not due to recording conditions; the master tape plays the songs with full vibrancy and sound spectrum, as Mark has shared with the forum members in the past.
It is almost as if the client played the master tape over the telephone and a lacquer was cut at Rite Records from the phone!
I have a near perfect copy of the Cavemen 45, surface noise and distortion are very low, yet apparent. If you have a VG / VG+ copy you are gonna hear the result of playwear and poor record care more than you would if the condition of the 45 grades near mint.
My vote for crudest lo-fi recording is the Midnight Raiders 45. The kids recorded their songs on something akin to a dictaphone! Knocks the Phoenix Pyre & The Young Souls 45s on the C.A.V.U. label (Ceiling and Visibility Unlimited, what a misnomer for a label name) from the top spot.
The LORDS on Vance is about bad as it gets. The 45 is mastered extremely lo-fi. Not the worst I've heard, but places within the Top 10 lousiest / lo-fi masterings.
