G45 Ebay Watch

More of a Canada g20 related, but I believe a forum member won the Threads of Fybre - Mama that ended last night. I chickened out over condition issues, but the soundclips sounded really good. A bonafide killer of a record!

Very observant Mr. Segment ;) . The record just arrived here , it needed two goes on the VPI , probably been unsleeved for a while , but no deep scratches , plays great after some initial crackles .

I expected the ebay record selling & buying would go into hibernation over the Xmas/New Year period, but my unscientific observation suggests it's still going strong. Do others agree that there has been no holiday fall off in activity?

Actually I have been looking at eBay over the last week, and I'm pretty disappointed at what's on offer. There's lots of rare '60s garage up, but a large proportion of it is ridiculous minimum bid items from Mr. Funk, most of which have been on his lists for years. Even if I needed anything he's offering, which I don't, I wouldn't be tempted to light upon that sticky flypaper!
It's amazing how many auctions he's running, but at those prices I guess one sale would pay for 500 listings!
Nothing against Mr. Funk or his service, but those minimum bids are just outta-this-world!

Actually I think it's the combination of high MB's and over-honest grading , but every now and then he'll have a spot on price . I bought a vg++ It's Us for $750 from him in 2010 and I'm sure I only got it for the MB because he graded it vg and a lot of people automatically ignore all his offerings

Here's a list of the final eBay sales from 2011:

1. A NM copy of The Rats - The Rat's Revenge on Black Cat sold for $271.00.
2. A VG (WLP) copy of The Hallmarks - Soul Shakin' Psychedelic Sally on Smash sold for $261.50.
3. A VG/VG+? copy of The Satans - Makin' Deals/Lines and Squares on Manhattan sold for $366.00.
4. A VG copy of Larry & the Blue Notes - Night of the Phantom/All My Own on Tiris sold for $282.99.
5. A VG copy of The Esquires - Judgement Day/These are The Tender Years on Glenvalley sold for $377.66.
6. A VG+ (w/M- P/S) copy of The Mourning Reign - Satisfaction Guaranteed/Our Fate on Link sold for $1,698.98.
7. A "MINT" copy of The Squires - Going All The Way/Go Ahead on Atco sold for $281.00.
8. A VG+ copy of The Aliens - Louie Louie/Gloria on Trutone sold for $499.99. (never heard of this one - anybody know if it's any good)?
9. A VG copy of The Heard - You're Gonna Miss Me/Exit 9 on One Way sold as a Buy It Now for $350.00.

6. A VG+ (w/M- P/S) copy of The Mourning Reign - Satisfaction Guaranteed/Our Fate on Link sold for $1,698.98.

So somebody finally caved in and bought the thomasfunk copy. I think this is the only copy with PS to be offered on eBay in the last 5-6 years, if ever? That price is not totally off, at least not for a non-US buyer (don't recognize the initials)

4. A VG copy of Larry & the Blue Notes - Night of the Phantom/All My Own on Tiris sold for $282.99

With horrible blue marker WOL. Yikes.

Yeah. His gradings are all over the place though. Sometimes I have been very pleased, other times not. Sometimes his "good minus" is like vg+ and sometimes it's just trashed. For example a Kyks I bought from him which barely plays through. On the other hand I bought the Amberjacks "Hey Eriq" several years ago, which he listed as "good", and it was darn close to mint minus. That made me very, very happy as it was also reasonably priced.

It's like he grades the records according to how much dirt is on them. A mint record with a lot of grime on it, gets graded down to "good", but a shiny disc with lots of deep scratches may be graded up.

It is helpful to be able to "exclude" a seller, which I discovered this week after wading through more than 20 pages of Mr. Funk's listings.

Nope...you are very right!!! Just finishing up the booklets for a 2 cd set with tons of unreleased also their 1st super rare 45 as the MAL-T'S. Big article in the next Ugly Things.

Damn...how soon until the CD set is ready, Joey? I'm really hoping for big things from Frantic and Ace in 2012 since 2011 was mostly quiet.

I got the deal of the day about an hour ago: the Shadows of Knight's "Bad Little Girl" for $13.50. I got it for the B-side, "Gospel Zone", which is the best garage I've heard in a very long time.

Travel Agent Man is on A Fistful of Fuzz and A Deadly Dose of Wylde Psych. Also on Lindgren & The Lama's list of top 20 psych psingles.
One is on Aliens Psychos Vol Fore.

I'll let you know what NM- means soon. :D:D:D:D:D

I nabbed a VG- copy of playboys of Edinburg wish you had a heart, too bad it has writing all over the label. :(

I once bid $700+ for this and lost out to our MIA moderator of this thread. Fantastic 45. Haven't seen it since. Until now. But this looked too much like another Les Harris identity to me. Hope it played ok!
