Here is an idea I've had for awhile, remember in Encyclopedias how they would have maps with various celluloid overlays to help you to follow history? I was thinking how cool would it be to have a map of N. America with various 'overlays' showing the various scenes developing over time! You could show labels/pressers, local-friendly radio stations of note, venues, and of course groups. Month by month or year-by year one could follow formations, releases, broadcast appearances, shows. Like wikipedia it could get more complex over time, maybe there could be 'red' groups to show British Invasion influenced groups and their spread (a pink folk type group like The Halifax Three + One going electric might become an orange dot as The Mugwumps, and a purple r&b group like The Wailers could turn red and still be The Wailers). Pyramids for stations, squares for labels, stars for venues? Anyway, there's the idea, I think it could work great on a website, so if anyone has additional ideas to pitch or wants to run with it feel welcome. :)
