Recently unearthed a 2 sided acetate by a band called Greenpt Asylum. Sanders Recording Studios in NYC…So guessing they were a NY area band. That "wax" on the acetate is actually the result of chemical breakdown over time. There is a term for it but I cannot recall what it is.
It cannot be removed, unfortunately. Any attempt to clean it will only make it worse. Water is not good for acetate lacquers. Unless you sent it to a professional restoration company, like one at the Library Of Congress, i would not mess with cleaning.

My feeling is Sanders tended to transfer tapes to acetates more than do conduct actual recording sessions, but I can't say for sure.
