Here's the real skinny on shipping U. S. to International

Okay....Forget what you were ever told when shipping records overseas that are over $250. DO NOT send by PRIORITY MAIL EXPRESS INTERNATIONAL like Ebay and Paypal tells you to do. If you send a $500 45 overseas by this method and it gets lost, you will not have a signature confirmation which they need to protect you. So you just made your buyer spend over $50 shipping for nothing!!! Plus charging that much for shipping will lose you lots of sales. All you have to worry about is to make sure you use SHIPSAVER INSURANCE. You can send a record up to $999.99 using 1st class intl. which will cost around $12.50/$12.75. If it sells for between $1000.00 and $2500.00 it must be sent by PRIORITY INTL. which is around $42. If the 45 gets lost or damaged Shipsaver will need to see that it was excepted by the Post office. This can be done with a tracking number, or customs form number or p.o. receipt. I just sold a $350 45 to Japan and the buyer is refusing to pay for it because shipping is $55.85 for PRIORITY MAIL EXPRESS INTERNATIONAL. So I made a lot of calls and found out that Ebay & Paypal shipping rules don't mean squat. Just make sure you insure it through Shipsaver and make sure there is a record of the P.O excepting it, (online or actual receipt) and they will cover you. I filed a claim with Shipsaver last year and they paid me off in 2 or 3 days.

My experience with paypal is all they want to know if the package was delivered and sending it Registered mail will do that. I've won a case like that when a guy from Germany said he did not get it and the online USPS tracking on registered mail showed that it was delivered and they sided with me! On another case on another package that I sent to Columbia just First Class international and they guy said he did not get it I could not prove that he did not get it and they of course sided with him even though I had proof that I mailed it to him( they did not want to hear that though). Sending it Registered cost around $28.00 to send. If you have not tried this maybe this could be another option. Bty paypal said no matter how much the item is you must be able to prove that the item was delivered, so anything sold overseas from here should be sent this way or another way that shows the item was delivered.

YOU ARE WRONG...Registered mail means nothing. This is the worst way to mail a package. Registered mail only tracks the package to the country it's going to. It does not provide signature confirmation!!! Every now and then they will side with both sides as a courtesy. They did that for me once. You got lucky. Once again...REGISTERED mail does not provide a online signature confirmation. After I eat my pizza I will add a link that says anything over $250 must have SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION. Delivery confirmation just means they dropped it off somewhere...BUT WHERE?

This is the discussion I had with the Paypal person I got on the phone with told me what was needed from me and that was proof that the package was delivered and Registered mail does that. I hope I was not just lucky as that is the way I send overseas and I have not had any problems so far this way(hope I don't either!). The package to Germany was over $1,000.00 and that was all that was needed, but maybe things have changed since then.

Read 11.4 of the link below. SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION over $250. The only service that offers SIG.CON. overseas is PRIORITY Express mail. PERIOD. When you talk to people at ebay or paypal, you could talk to 20 people and get 20 different answers. Believe me. REGISTERED is the most useless service, super slow, red flag attached that it's probably rare and it only gets tracked to the country that it's going to. THINGS HAVE CHANGED. So just send it by 1st class intl. ($12.50) and insure it through Shipsaver and you will be fine. Do not listen to VINYL01 you will be screwed if you lose a registered package!!!

Ok, If the package is over $250.00 you need a signature, but if it's under all you need is proof that was delivered as stated in Section 11.4 Registered mail should work. It's a choice for yourself how you want it sent.

dude!!! REGISTERED MAIL DOES NOT INCLUDE SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION!

I know, but if the package is under $250.00 is not needed by what I read there.

UGH....I'm talking about over $250!!!! Under $250 all you need to do is send it by 1st class intl. Registered is a joke and a scam!!!

If it's under $250 it DOES NOT NEED PROOF OF DELIVERY for intl. shipping!!! You just need to prove that the P.O. excepted the package.

Well, it saved me the one time I needed it. However, now if I have a sale over $250.00 I'll send it with required signature. Thanks for pointing that out though.

Thankfully, I sent a package to an honest buyer that was over $250.00 about a month ago that was just sent registered and he did not make a claim. He did receive it as proof with a positive feedback!! I guess he could have screwed me if he made a claim because I did not send it with the required signature.

arggggggggggggggggg!!!! didn't you read what I said above? Forget sending it with SIG. CONF. it is a sham. If the item gets lost they will not have a signature and will not cover it. Also you will lose lots of sales trying to charge $55.85 for a $250 record. All you need to know or do is to make sure you use SHIPSAVER INSURANCE through Ebay. Then you can send a item up to $1000 using 1st class intl. ($12.50/12.75) If it gets lost, SHIPSAVER will just need proof that the P.O. excepted the item. Do you get that or must I type it all over again?

exactly...most guys are honest, but if you get a buyer who knows the rules (most don't) all he has to do is say he didn't get it...AND YOU LOSE!

Ok, I've never used that shipsaver insurance, but will check it out.

Bty, I think the correct spelling is ''accept'' and not ''excepted''.

Dude...you're right but I get frustrated when I have to keep repeating myself!

.
Don't just check it out, without it you have ZERO protection for sending items overseas that are over $250. Plus you can insure it for the full amount (let's say $900) and on the customs form you can claim it for $10. Since SHIPSAVER has nothing to do with the P.O. they won't know what you claimed it for. If you insure it through the P.O. you'll need to claim it for $900 to get $900 if they rule in your favor which will take weeks. Shipsaver pays off in just a few days.

I don't have too many sales at that level anyway, but if I do I'll know what to do.

Thanks

Last word on the subject....It doesn't matter what postal service you use, if you send it out and it gets lost there will be no signature because it didn't get there. Ebay or Paypal will not protect you whatsoever!!! They do not tell you this in the fine print. I had to yell at a paypal supervisor for 20 minutes to get him to admit this. I've spent $1000s of dollars on EXPRESS SHIPPING over the years for nothing!!! So please guys, make sure you use Shipsaver and insure all items. They will payoff in a few days as long as you show proof of acceptance.

I would never deal with someone who ships records by registered mail. It will take two months to get to the destination. It's the most worthless way to send something valuable through the mail system. Media mail would be safer and quicker:lol:

Also: Postal rates are going up across the board in two weeks!

Not true in my cases! Buyers told me they got them in tow weeks or less. I've no complaints from any of my buyers that I sent this way and there were many(mostly under $250.00).
