Hoi Polloi Kanwic Who's this group?

I've had a copy of Hoi Polloi Better Things on Kanwic for some time and i cant find any info on who is this group, I only know the label is from Wichita Kansas, hence the KANsas WIChita, and Hoi Polloi in english is often use in a derogatory sense, means masses (common people, riff raff etc...) It's one of my many favorites.
Maybe it's not much of a mystery to some of you guys?
