Hot Off The Press...The Fringe...Token For My Mind

Fabulous stuff. I hope it gets distributed in Holland as overseas postage costs are a bit expensive...

You'll need to order it direct. So far he hasn't farmed out any of his releases for distribution. And you'll never know if it's a pressed cd or cd-r until you get it.

I guess I won't have this in my collection then...

The Fringe sounded really good to my ears. I also enjoyed the Fergus samples.

I'm not familiar with this company. Are the artists compensated?

At the risk of getting shunned by my peers, I opted for the digital downloads (Fringe and Fergus 2nd LP). The download process isn't instant (though they instantly deducted payment out of my Pay Pal account).

Update: Color me unimpressed.
--- About 5 minutes later, the links were sent to my spam folder (not their fault).
---Unlike BandCamp, you do not receive a compressed file. Instead, each song from an album must be individually downloaded (their fault).
--- Download links will expire within 72 hrs ; some people may not think to look in their spam folder and these may expire beforehand (their fault).

Most disappointing: MP3 files are encoded at 128 !!!???

128!!!??? refund!!!

Something tells me that the "hard copy" orders will be CD-R with little to brag about. The disclosure of digital files being encoded at 128 is burried on an entirely irrelevant page (not mentioned on home page or the main page for downloading).

After reading Greg's rebuttal (his response below) .... I'll just say "let the buyer beware."

"Thanks for your mail. I'm sorry if there has been any misunderstanding - the recommended download 'Guide' on the site describes our file format as 'Fraunhofer 128kbps'.

Since the inception of this digital store, all downloads have been at 128kbps and most customers prefer the lower file size. As you probably know, the average listener is unable to tell the difference between the various so-called 'quality benchmarks' especially when listening on their phones. I started out with 128 kbps when that was the 'industry standard'. All my MP3 transfers are from the original master 24 bit WAV files whereas many iTunes tracks are from CDs at 16 bit.

I value your opinions and will take them into account when making future updates to the site.

Many thanks,

Greg Hambleton"

same kinda BS he gave me when I asked him why he started releasing cd-rs instead of pressed cds like his earlier releases.

Got it. Just started playing. "Token From My Mind" sounds awesome, nice crisp bass, fuzz break rips nice & loud.
Comes sealed in a digipak cover. Be careful when you open; the disc doesn't fit tightly on the teeth see scan).Fringe 1.jpgFringe 2.jpg
