Fresh post-college group of friends going places in one mate's car, listening to music courtesy of another mate. This was the eighties. Even back then, I was a latent audiophile, so listening to the music through sun-baked car speakers made it tough for me to warm to this new style of music, but you couldn't pick a more monumental '60s garage LP than Ugly Things vol. 1. This was followed by various other compilations such as Ugly Things vol. 2, Mindrocker, HITMS, Pebbles, BFTG (I forget the exact sequence and details), but by this time I was listening to them on a proper sound system, and was a true convert. What surprised me was the enormous chasm between what I thought was the best music, and how good the new best music was. I listened exclusively to '60s garage music for the next 25 years.
Collecting original vinyl started about two years after starting on the reissues, when I discovered how much superior the fidelity was on the original.
