How much is this worth?

Rare 45 on a desirable label, but dull songs. I'd estimate $100 to $150 with most of that being rarity value. Might be sought after by label completists; I can't imagine anyone wanting it for the music.

I want it for the music, Michael. "no no no no" it's a personal fave and I'm still looking for it since long time ago. The psychedelic atmosphere of this tune it's amazing in my opinion.

Some of the players in Gemini Five became the Town Criers. Namely Sam Dunnin (g), Mark Demajo (b), and George 'Katz' Kurtiss (k).

The G45 Oracle says it's worth $497 in mint-.

S1=6, S2=4, R=8.5, L=3, T=2, A=4

And that's exactly $3 less than I personally think it's worth in that condition.

http://www.g45central.com/g45/Oracle/G45Oracle.html

For those people who believe it's a two star (S4) not a 3 star (S6), then the Oracle says $306. But no-one would ever sell a mint copy for that, if they had any sense, as it's one of the top 20 hardest to find Aussie garage 45s.

Thanks Mark. So in your estimates what are the other 19 hardest to find - from 1 to 19, thanks?

The list will depend on the definition of "had to find". For example the Atlantics "Come On" is hard not because there are so few copies in existence, but because no-one wants to sell their copy. On the other hand, the Gemini Five is hard because there are not many copies anywhere at all, even though it's not sought after as much as the Atlantics. My list will be the latter option, records which are just not available at all, whether they are sought after or not. My definition means "hard to find to purchase" not "hard to find in collections". I also do not include acetates, only vinyl pressings. Also I usually include NZ 45s in my Australasian lists, but I won't this time, due to my limited knowledge of NZ rarity.

The other thing about my list is, it represents what was hard to find 10-15 years ago, when I was actively collecting Aussie 45s. Since then, who knows? I just haven't been watching.

Here is my list of the top 25 hardest to find Australian '60s garage 45s, in order. All are rare, but not all the 45s are great. When they ARE great, they may tend to get bumped up a little toward the top of the list.

1 - Creatures - "Mona" (66 Sound) - there can't be more than 3 known copies?
2 - Marksmen - "Moonshine" (Enterprise) - all-round monster rarity, but a few have shown up over the years
3 - Johnny K. - "Big Boat Up The River" - killer, less than 5 known copies
4 - Sunday - "Many Mary" - similar rarity & greatness to above, but I have owned 2 copies so...
5 - Bobby Dean & The Worried Minds - "Tell Me (What's Going On)" (Soundtrack) less than 5 known?
6 - Tikki's - "I'm Lonely" - I've also owned 2 mint copies of this, but it's a killer
7 - Glenn & The Outlaws "Don't Ask Me What I Say" (Mojo) - I'd estimate Less than 5 would exist, but it's mediocre r&b beat
8 - Mimo With The Leprechauns - "There's A Trick In Pickin' A Chick-Chick Chicken Today" (Crest) There must be more than one known copy, but maybe not...?
9 - Fiesta Men - "Questions" - (Vista VR-50) - usually only shows up as an acetate, but I have a vinyl pressing of this
10 - Frantics - "Familiar Faces And Forgotten Dreams" - (Crest) vanishingly small quantity, good song
11 - Sorrows - "Someday" (Big Sound) Solid 2 star garage tune with a cool break, never mentioned in most discogs. Allegedly from Newcastle.
12 - Town Criers - "Big Deal" (Trend) - Quite a good, original song. May be the best on the ultra rare Trend label. '60s releases on the Trend label are very hard to find, but generally not as rare as Crest.
13 - Ray Hoff & The Off-Beats - "I've Got To Get You" (Action) much more desirable than the similarly rare Mort & The Mobees on the same label
14 - The Union - "Thump" (Trend)
15 - Gemini Five - "No, No, No" (Trend) I'm not sure which of these 2 Trends is rarer. Probably both the same. Many '60s garage collectors would probably prefer The Union, but I like The Gemini Five better.
16 - Hugo - "Girl In The Garden" - 2 sider, and very very rare for a major label
17 - Mystrys - "Witch Girl" (Orbit) - the Leedon re-release takes a little heat off this as a collectors item
18 - Last Straws - "I Can't Stop Loving You Baby" - punky mover that is probably the rarest 45 on Scope
19 - Elois - "By My Side" - non-bootleg copies never show up.
20 - Missing Links - "H'Tuom Tuhs" mint copies are very, very expensive to obtain
21 - Sunsets - "I Want Love" (Festival) Monster punker and the #1 request I always receive from overseas collectors. Never had a spare.
22 - Templars - "Come On Baby" (W&G custom) - always mentioned for its rarity, but i have seen a few sold over the years
23 - Mort & The Mobees - "Can't You See" (Action) - beloved of oddball collector types. Yawn. But it IS horrendously rare.
24 - Tol-Puddle Martrys - "Time Will Come" / "Social Cell" (Spiral) really great 2 sider on a rare label.
25 - Clique - "Love Me Girl" - rarest, best and most fervently sought-after of the 40-odd Go!! releases

bubbling under....
take your pick from Atlantics Come On, Playboys "Sad", Inside Looking Out "Long Live Sivananda", Johnny & The Strangers, any number of very rare CBS for example Anne Reilly & The Echo Men or Laurie Wade or Freddie Cook, some of the 7 Russ Krugers, all 4 of the Pink Finks, the entire Downunder catalog, vapourware such as Tol-Puddle on Pacific or Steve & The Board's Margot, Black Diamonds, Moods, Creatures Ugly Thing, Flies "Doin' The Mod" with Pic Sleeve, Other Ends on Go!!, The Bucket, D-Coys "Bad Times"...they're ALL so freakin' hard to find!

With the Worried Minds, I own 2, was offered a third - and may still get it. The third copy was found in an op shop last year, here in sunny Brisbane.

The copies I know out there are; Mark Taylor, I know three friends who own a copy in Brisbane (seen them all with my own eyes), I own two. So I know of six copies. Anyone else you wish to add Mark.

Ha, wotta list !

I've two from it: # 19 & 24.

Always desired # 3, stood back from #2 till M.W. scored his (well deserved) copy.

& now I've a project to hand; tracking down & memory refreshing on the rest..

Great List Mark, trust you're lacking in one or two of them?? Or possibly not ?? :twistedevil:

As always these organic lists are a work in progress.

I have 3, 5, 11 and 15. Had 18 but sold it - and 20 was an unplayed promo copy that sold last year. Had many opporunities with most of the list but not as interested as I once was - collect Brisbane stuff only now.

What about the D-Coy's 'Leaving Here' - this sounds like an underrated 45! 'Tis a cleaner sound than the other Oz bands that cover the Birds' catalogue... I like this one more so.
