How much is this worth?

O/T:A favourite interview that I've done recently!!

With the Worried Minds, I own 2, was offered a third - and may still get it. The third copy was found in an op shop last year, here in sunny Brisbane.

The copies I know out there are; Mark Taylor, I know three friends who own a copy in Brisbane (seen them all with my own eyes), I own two. So I know of six copies. Anyone else you wish to add Mark.

No. Before you hit the scene, mine was the only copy anyone I know had ever seen. But I don't have many Brisbane contacts.

Ha, wotta list !

I've two from it: # 19 & 24.

Always desired # 3, stood back from #2 till M.W. scored his (well deserved) copy.

& now I've a project to hand; tracking down & memory refreshing on the rest..

Great List Mark, trust you're lacking in one or two of them?? Or possibly not ?? :twistedevil:

When it comes to Australian 45s, I lack nought of the top 500. Or anything significant to my knowledge. But as I said, it's 10 years since I more or less closed the book on actively seeking them out, and in that time it is probable that others may have come to light.

Another factoid : I actually had 2 almost complete Aussie 45 collections at one stage. I had 3 Atlantics "Come On", 4 Moods "Rum Drunk", 2 Elois (both mint), 2 Marksmen (and a 3rd at a later date) etc etc.. I traded many for US garage 45s, and gave many others away. My current collection is the pick of the copies I owned, condition-wise. Very many are mint.

What about the D-Coy's 'Leaving Here' - this sounds like an underrated 45! 'Tis a cleaner sound than the other Oz bands that cover the Birds' catalogue... I like this one more so.

Yes it's good, but far easier to score a copy than "Bad Times" (which is also a cover version). "Bad Times" are hard to find! I've only ever had one copy of it.

I have 3, 5, 11 and 15. Had 18 but sold it - and 20 was an unplayed promo copy that sold last year. Had many opporunities with most of the list but not as interested as I once was - collect Brisbane stuff only now.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that The Sorrows is less rare than I presumed. It could be one of those 45s that people just don't rate. It's hard to say.

25 - Clique - "Love Me Girl" - rarest, best and most fervently sought-after of the 40-odd Go!! releases

surprised about that one , I had 3 copies over the years , never cost me more than $100 . I always thought the Bobby James Syndicate is the toughest Go release . If I remember right Bill N. had 5 unplayed copies of the Elois which he got off the guy who ran the Melbourne label that released the Specters - Depression . How about the Vyt ? That doesn't seem to turn up very often .

5 - Bobby Dean & The Worried Minds - "Tell Me (What's Going On)" (Soundtrack) less than 5 known?
There are 6 sales recorded on Popsike, including two from last year. Of course some of them might be from the 5 known copies being offloaded, but this suggests it may not be so ultra rare.

I tend to agree. I have two copies of the Clique and paid about the same as you. Good deal for a great two sider. I've recorded eight sales on ebay over the last 8 years. Bobby James Syndicate would be a bit harder to get but even there I have recorded six sales in the last 7 years.

You're probably right. The Clique got a big boost in certain collector circles about 10 years ago, when a well-known US caped collector put out an offer for $800 (if I remember correctly) for a m- copy. That was a LOT of money in those days for an Australian 45. He got his copy (not from me, as I didn't have it at the time). I also found it difficult to find a nice copy, although I have had 2 or 3 beaters and finally a nice one. But it's true that times change, and a few more copies coming up via eBay does change the perceived value. My list needs to be hammered into shape and brought up to date, that's why I put it up.

The other factor is that Aussie 45s were undervalued by collectors here until the '90s, and many copies went overseas for peanuts before Aussies woke up to the fact that our 60s is just as good and just as rare as any other country. So, some 45s which are now rare here, are more plentiful in Europe for example. The Creatures "Ugly Thing" is a classic example of this. George Crotty had 15 copies of that 45, and sold them all to overseas collectors (for I don't know how much, but not a lot!). There's probably way less than that left in Australia.

When I was collecting Australian 45s, I put an infamous ad in the major newspapers of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, offering very good prices for a large range of the rarest 45s. Like $750- for the Marksmen. I got huge amounts of hate from various dealers and collectors, who resented the fact that I had spilled the beans on the true value of our '60s musical heritage. They wanted to continue to scoop it up for cheap and funnel it out of the country, I guess. It was time for a change!

Yeah, it deserves to slide down the list on a 50 foot anaconda! Obviously some kind of quantity turned up.
