I'm switching to lighter boxes

After 20 years of lugging around heavy wood boxes with 120 records per box, I have decided to switch to a lighter and smaller box. I'm almost ready to place my order for 1500 boxes which each hold 25 records. That's more than enough for my needs, but the order has to be that large to satisfy the minimum requirement of the box manufacturer. Here's a photo of the first samples which arrived today (with a bunch of Greek 45s checking out their new home). They are hand-made of super-strong and light laminated cardboard.

The only disadvantage of the new small boxes compared to larger boxes, is that you can't really flip thru the records. But I don't think it will matter, I will just take the 25 records out of the box for viewing. I don't really like flipping 45s anyway, because the labels are always obscured or upside down.

I'll need to put some kind of identification label on each box. Currently I'm thinking of using a diecut rectangle of stiff white carboard slipped inside the box at one end, poking up far enough to hold a printed identification sticker. It would be the same width as the narrow side of the box. Otherwise I could just stick a sticker on the end of the box, but it might peel off.

So you'll stack the 25-count boxes into larger boxes to go into your shelving? Or will you remodel the record room with shorter shelves to hold the boxes in a 90° angle to the wall?

That was my first thought . I like fliping through boxes so I guess my minimum would be 50 per box . Currently my boxes hold about 170 and yes they are quite heavy . As they sit in a selfbuilt sideboard I'll probably still keep them...

I thought I was getting fancy hitting the comic book store to get 8 replacement long boxes a couple days ago!

Still have my poly bins. Even though the exact measurements of my bins are not manufactured anymore, there are close size options and various color choices. Even clear (no color).
Lightweight, stackable, easy to peruse contents. Each one holds about 120 45s.

I wish I bought the Per Madsen storage system for 45s before he retired. Per made drawers for 45s that were stackable. There are LP and equipment copies manufactured to match Per's Rack-It storage system using his original specs but none for 45s.

At first I'll just stack them 90° sideways on the existing shelves. If I run out of room I may consider re-modeling the shelves at a later date.

Since I'm getting new speakers for the kitchen, I have to carry records up and down the stairs frequently. I like sitting in the kitchen listening to 45s. It's close to the frig and coffee machine. I could use the elevator, but somehow I don't. A solid mahogany box with 120 45s is just too heavy to carry up and down stairs many times per day. That's the main reason I'm changing. Sloth and weakness in equal measure.
