The seller of the "Insane Collection" of garage 45s, has advised me that the first (small) batch will be up for sale at the Secret Society on Sunday night, December 14. If I have any say in the way it's done, I will try to ensure that they go up gradually over a 24 hour period so that no-one has a particular time advantage.

As I mentioned earlier, the first batch is deliberately low-key for the pre-Christmas period, with only about 55 discs, mainly in the $50-$150 range. There's a few pricier ones, but no monsters this time. The prices I have seen so far compare favourably overall with averages found on popsike.

It seems that the seller is only intending to offer the $50-and-over items here. He is selling the very cheap items (like Knickerbockers and Count Five etc.) elsewhere, presumably to save postage and packaging (and the work involved). Even so, he says over 1500 discs will be offered here.

Remember to remind em that low dollar, tepid sounding filler titles on small labels (whose discography also features a good record) can be sexy to dorks like me trying to run a label!
I suspect that Chas_Kit will back me up on that!

Absolutely! Small label 45s can sit in a shop forever but would be snapped up here if cheap.

It's my opinion that the majority of the collection will end up being offered on G45Central. But the seller has to find out for himself what works best.

In general, there seems to be very few tepid discs in the collection. The owner of the collection was way ahead of his time and had amazing taste. He travelled all over the USA collecting 60s garage 45s, starting in the mid 60s. He had access to the inner circle of Texas collectors in the earliest years. Some of the records he actually bought from the groups themselves at gigs, in the mid '60s! It's all primo grade '60s garage material, regardless of rarity. Anything could be in those boxes, including the possibility of complete unknowns.

I've had a few requests to keep a lookout for specific records, so here's what I've decided to do...

It would be great if everyone got their top 2 or 3 wants, wouldn't it?
I'm inviting everyone to send me their top 10 wants via Private Message. Please number them 1 to 10 (1 being your top want). People who get their list in early will have priority over latecomers (only if there is a direct conflict, for example if the same record is number 8 on two different lists, the earlier list would get priority).

I can't guarantee any results, but I will try to help. It would be a pity if someone missed out on their top want just because of a timezone anomaly. Having something on your wantlist will not affect the price. Prices will be set by the seller before I get the lists. There is also no obligation to buy anything if it's on your wantlist. You will just get first right of refusal. Your list will remain private between you and me. There will still be tons of records on the free-for-all set sale lists, believe me.

Please keep in mind there is no reason I'm offering to do this, except to try to help everyone get a fair chance for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Hopefully it won't blow up in my face!

You're a saint Mark! Now to make a list... Ugggh

I have the first list. However, I have been instructed not to post it until Sunday night.
The list is very short, 53 items this time, quite a few UK ones as well as USA. The bigger items have been held over until January, because of concerns over Christmas cash-flow. It's probably a good idea for everyone concerned.

Of the 53 items, about a dozen are reasonably rare, and I believe well-priced on average. The seller uses an unconventional grading system, with grades like "near ex". Don't be put off by this, I have seen most of the discs and the grades are AOK in my book. He hasn't graded anything m or m-. That should tell you something.
There is a lot of smoggy age-scum on some of the records. It is the type of scum that cleans right off, it is not hazy wax. None of the records I saw had any PVC haze, it was all harmless greasy scum.

One of the 53 items is on someone's want list. That person will be contacted a couple of days before the list goes up.

I have also seen the January list. It's pretty great...

The want list record has been sold. So, sorry if it wasn't you this time.

But we got one wantlist hit out of 50 discs. If that continues for the remaining 1500 discs, we would end up with 30 wantlist hits. And only about 10 people have sent lists, so that means 3 each....

...in theory!

Is it reasonable to ask what the want list items are after they are sold, just out of curiousity?

Thanks, yeah I don't really care who gets it, just curious to know everything that this collection entails...

One record I remember seeing (probably the only big disappointment so far) was Georgy & The Velvet Illusions "Mini Shimmy". I got excited when I saw it, not for myself because I already have it. But I know it's a big want for several others here. Only about 5 known copies, if that.

I took it out of the bag, and it had a 2 cm chunk of vinyl missing at the edge!

Yes. I will list them, but not the buyer's name. If they want to disclose that, it's up to them.

The record sold was The Gents "If You Don't Come Back" on Duane "near ex" condition $300.
The seller's grading of "near ex" means somewhere between vg++ and m-, from the records I have seen.

Very fair price.
