I follow a bunch of people who collect garage (and other) 45s on IG (probably at least a few of you folks!). I see some people sell records on IG but it seems like it’s fairly limited, at least for highly desired records.

I’ve never taken any steps to post my collection on IG but my question is, for those that do post their collection on IG, have you realized greater opportunities for trade, or even private sales, coming up based on your posts?? I’m looking to broaden my network for getting top wants and wondering if posting my collection might help with that…

I've limited experience with other genres I collect like 1st generation punk 45s and did good trades, sales and purchases on IG. Made nice contacts to fellow collectors in that field. Never bought, sold or traded garage on Insta, though.

The 60's punk sell and trade page on FB seems to be where the action is. Really haven't seen any similar groups on Instagram.

the way the ig algorithm is working these days, it's hard to know if anyone's even seeing your posts in the first place. people have resorted to double posting in the feed and stories at the same time, or posting candid/head shots every few days to convince Meta they are an actual person. the few guys that I see selling stuff (not garage typically), the things I'd want already sold immediately when they finally show up in my feed 8 hours later.

that being said, it has been a good way to meet other collectors of similar things that I wouldn't have met otherwise. seems like really motivated people do well working trades behind the scenes, tho some seem almost stalker-ish. and cash usually trumps any trade offers.

Thanks for that info…really helpful. Well, if anyone’s interested, I started posting stuff - I’m “greeenscream” - feel free to follow me 😊. My main motivation is to meet people and strike up a new forum for trading but the unintended outcome is that it seems to be a nice way to document my collection!

bought a handful of records off instagram, but not much.
generally, the experience was good. prices were not as overhyped as in the FB group.
