kick this wanker in the balls!

Regarding the Keggs, Tim has been waiting for Art to send him the photos promised,
I think that is why there has been a delay and resulting exclusion from the new set of BFTG.

The top 1000 label scan section is a different story. Here's a typical page, showing ticks...There are only 27 45s out of the top 1000 which are not ticked. 15 of the 27 missing 45s are one-of-a-kind acetates in major collections, so it will never be complete.

An amazing accomplishment Boss - not even considering the relatively short collecting time span. That two page spread of records doesn't get any better, not even at the top 100 (where it actually declines in quality). The only odd one out is the Pa-go-go 45.

I long ago decided life was too short - not too mention my resources too limited - to collect everything that's good, so I'm only going for the cream. Still a formidable challenge for me, as well as coming far, far short of the cream of your collection, Boss. I'm mainly after 7 star and above now, although a strong four star record is still desirable for me if it's uncomped, and particularly if it's unlisted as well (such as Candy & the Corporations - which is actually 5 stars). I'll also lower the rating threshold if I need to complete a band discography or label, if it comes with a nice PS, or if it's a bargain, but how much I like the song is still the bottom line for me which is why I absolutely have to rely on my own rating system.

well, since Mike says all the data is not organised in a database, it would be a herculean task to issue a "virtual TBM". as i said, it would be a very quick way to look for info, like e.g. last week i was trying to line up a list of 1960s teen beat dylan covers, which takes a lot of time w/ the book but would be possible within seconds with a software version, BUT leafing through a book is fun too;) and the song title index at the end of the book does some good as well.

I recently joined 45cat and contribute to things I see which need clarification or correction, but no way am I gonna sit down and key in my 45 collection.

In the meantime, that's something I'm willing to do. When I have nothing better to do, I'll troll eBay for records that haven't been added to 45cat yet and make entries for them.

I do agree that false/missing information is a problem (one which I try to remedy by simply not adding information about a record when I'm not 100% sure about something) but there are plenty of ways to correct it, given that you have the correct information on hand. The "arbitrating authority" that buckeyebeat mentions is alive, well and active, and if corrections are made in the proper fashion, they are usually made quickly.

Discogs, on the other hand, is absolutely awful for most singles. Splitting stock and promotional copies into separate entries, overly complicated data submission processes, gargantuan backlogs of edits to be confirmed...it's an absolute clusterfuck. I'm more than willing to contribute to 45cat, as you don't need to sacrifice your firstborn in order to make a database entry, but Discogs is just too much.

I just took a look at a few labels on 45 cat to see if they are usable to me.

My main question is - why is it necessary to have the umpteenth online discography of labels like Motown, or Golden World, or Arctic, or even Captiol or ABC? There at least two other websites that have extensive, well vetted discographies for these labels. In the case of Motown there is a huge interactive database already with insightful comments about each song. Why do the people into 45cat feel to need to reinvent these wheels?

I don't think 45cat is intended to be a site for definitive discographies, necessarily, so much as a site made for tracking collections. It's one thing to have a list of all releases for a label, but another thing to make that discography interactive.

Adding a various artists LP to discogs is kind of a pain in the ass, but I can add a 45 in about 2 minutes flat, or more if I want to go crazy with credits, matrix numbers, etc. I'm not sure what "gargantuan backlogs of edits to be confirmed" -- the voting system needs an overhaul, but if I add a record, it's there instantly whether or not someone wants to vote it correct or not. On the other hand, I think 45cat is awful. As far as I can tell there's not even a genre listed per record.

I guess it depends on who you ask. Earlier in this thread, and elsewhere, there was suggestions made to use 45cat as a general record database, or at least a database for garage 45s. I will take CollectorScum at their word that 45cat does not really have the infrastructure to tag records as "TBM" or "G45" so that one of us could, say, search for "Texas" and "TBM" to get a list of Texas 45s that are garage. So, to me, that makes it pretty much useless. I took a quick look at comments for some of the records I perused in the discography and I didn't see a single useful comment, most of the comments were youtube links, good, I suppose if you don't know the record but hardly something that is really necessary.

After reading this and the comments about Discogs in the other thread, setting up an account in Discogs might be useful if for nothing else you can enter wants and hope that someday you will get a notification that someone posted Murphy and the Mob for $20......

DAMN..... So in other words, one of those UNRELEASED Keggs cuts was BFTG worthy!?!? Imagine if another one of their songs got featured? That would have been 3 songs on BFTG's! More than any other group! That really sucks that he never sent him anything.

I hate to say it, but as awesome as the new graves are, a NEW KEGGS tune gracing the new volumes would have been MONSTROUS!:(

The Donshires took their place!

Some of the tracks from the new volumes can even be found on YouTube now. I understand the frowns toward that kind of thing, but the people who are putting it up bought the actual product with their money. So, what can you really say to them? It's their prerogative to do whatever they want with a CD or LP that they purchased. Also, people should just settle for the fact that this type of thing will always happen! The best of things will always end up scattered, and in the wrong hands.

I get mad at the people who have no shame in downloading these comps for free. Younger generations should at least buy the CD, because most of them don't even own a record player. When I placed my order for my copy of the new BFTG, I had to wait 3 damn weeks for my package to arrive! I was impatient and full of anticipation the whole time, that when that package finally came, I literally snatched it from the mailman at the door! A guy on social media asked me after I posted about receiving my package, "upload that bad boy dude let me get a download :)". I said NO! I didn't wait 3 weeks just to BURN YOUR SORRY ASS A COPY WITHIN' SECONDS. GO BUY IT AND SUFFER IN ANTICIPATION LIKE I DID IF YOU REALLY LIKE THIS MUSIC. He clearly doesn't though!

At the end of the day, it's the people who don't buy jack shit that give you the sour taste in your mouths. 18 to early 20 year old's who look for comps on the creepy caveman's blog with no intention at all of actually buying the products.

These are the type of people that get on (my) nerves. This douche had ZERO intention of wasting any money on this. I called him out though! He's a moron in real life too... Put his ass on the chopping block and let the executioner do his thing!:twistedevil:

The Donshires are firmly planted at the front of the "Grave Greatness" lineup.
Any other tune / group is a distant second.

I'd love to have this track on a boot or legal issue 45!

This exact thought has been relayed to the two involved parties. You / me / we live in hope...

I love how certain tracks on the new volumes almost equate past tracks. Tim REALLY knows what he's doing.

The Warlocks-Beware > The Tigermen-Close That Door
The Shakles-Whizz 7 > The Savoys-Can It Be
The Donshires-Sad And Blue > The Keggs-To Find Out
It's Them-Baby (I Still Want Your Lovin) > The Bojax-Go Ahead And Go
Four More-Problem Child > The Centrees-She's Good For Me
The Starfyres-No Room For Your Love > The One Way Streets-We All Love Peanut Butter

Now I await LAST of the GPU in thee mail!
