Several years back, I bought a promo copy of the Knickerbockers "They Ran For Their Lives" on Challenge records. When I played it, I discovered that the lyrics were almost completely different than the version that I have on 3 different comps. Sounds like the same backing track, though. In the chorus, they sing "A boy and girl holding hands" instead of "A frightened woman and man". The verses are vastly different with the only line common to the two being "They knew that their life was hanging by a thread". Anyone here familiar with this version? Is it unique to promo copies? I could find no reference to it via the internet and even contacted Bob Irwin thinking he could shed some light on this but he was unaware of it's existence.
