Last Of The Garage Punk Unknowns Volumes 3 & 4

A message from Crypt HQ that should make the webshop crowd happy....

"at last a proper functioning Crypt Mailorder SHOPPING CART has been launched 1 HOUR AGO, with around 4000 titles from our old 6700-title copy&paste catlog, sleeves, label shots, youtube clips so you can HEAR a song rather than simply taking our word for it (Democracy In Action!!!!). (well, we certainly were a bit RESERVED in the ugh, Northern Soul reissue section, so we just used the blurbs from the labels/distribs rather than spew honest and deprecating reviews…)
twas a nightmarish task getting the Postage Calculator set up but it’s a beaut now, and German Post, god bless ‘em, have the BEST damned international postal rates!
those logging in from OUTSIDE the European Union automatically will see a nice 19% discounted price on each item cos EU value-addled-tax is not an issue.
Prices? CHEAP!"

At first listen the Druids (the band on MNO) really floored me!
It's taken from a unissued live tape.

Anyone knows (mr. splendid, gregk25..) if this tape will be released (I have a soft spot for these Druids)

If I remember right Tim got this one track from a secretive and very hard to deal with NorCal collector , so I'd doubt that any more tracks will be available soon .

Ok, what's the review on Purple Virus? Worth the wait?

It's great but more in the style of (say) the Dovers, than the Keggs. The tune and lyrics are tuff enough but vocals lack swagger, they are not typical GPU or BFTG style, which is probably why Tim chose to drop it from the CD version. The still unheard flipside is almost as good, by the way.

Has a 2nd copy ever turned up?

Not that I know of. But wasn't there supposed to be 2 copies, the one you hooked me up with, and one owned by a member of the group? That's what I vaguely remember.
I never heard that, but then again I don't remember what I had for breakfast. :sonny:

Maybe this has been reported elsewhere on the forum but LOTGPU Vols 5 and 6 can now be ordered from the Crypt website.

Yes, there is a second copy in the hands of one of the band members. He has no interest in letting it go, however.

I suppose it wasn't on the CD version because it should be included on a Big Beat comp dedicated to Peninsula Psych (or so Joey D. posted a few months ago)

Just recieved GARAGE PUNK UNKNOWNS VOL. 5 & 6 & BACK FROM THE GRAVE VOL. 8 cds from Timmy Dubya in der fatherland. Insanely great as usual!!! B.F.T.G 8 upgrade is excellent with mucho thanks to BossHoss' recordings and Timmy's remastering. BUY OR DIE:twistedevil:

Vols. 5 & 6 of "Last Of the Garage Punk Unknowns" are up to the standards we have come to expect. Tim's Helikon / Lynn / Krell rig have come through again. I had the good fortune to hear some of the "roughs" on the more lofi & acetates sides used here a while back & Tim has managed to extract brilliant sound & presence from them. Finally, "The Mummy" is available in the best sound possible.
Great selection, mastering & packaging continues throughout this series. I know Mr. Warren has put hundreds of hours into making these comps sound the way they should. Thanks should also go out to those benevolent souls that have made their rare records available for all of us to hear. These sets belong to the same level of work that John Lomax, Harry Smith & Guy Stevens have given us.

I seem to remember that this series was initially planned to 8 volumes... would that mean that those new comps would be the last Crypt comps ever ? :(
