One of the members of the Sangralads tossed 100 copies of both of their 45s in a dumpster around 1976 or so.

Sangralea Valley was a boys' home located near Logansport, Indiana (my hometown) - Sangralads came from the home's name Sangralea. If you take the link to the interview with one of the band members there's a few places mentioned: the Air Force base would have been Bunker Hill, later renamed Grissom Air Force Base for Gus Grissom (from southern Indiana) - Bunker Hill had B-58 Hustlers stationed there in the 60s, and there's a nice museum on the grounds with a B-58 as part of the display. There's a snap of a sign that was at the entrance of Indiana Beach ("The Riviera of the Midwest") in Monticello, Indiana. Indiana Beach was an amusement park/swimming area with a club that had a ballroom. They drew local talent (seems like I read somewhere Sir Winston and the Commons played there), as well as charting groups passing by on their way to Indianapolis, Chicago or Louisville.

My favorite "45 depletion" story via NW Buckeye: The Tremors had just received their boxes of the "Wondering Why" 45s and placed them in their vehicle along with their equipment (I think), in readiness for the next gig. Someone stole the vehicle in the meantime, took it for a joyride, and then smashed it to smithereens in an accident. Nearly all of the 45s were in pieces. Oh, the humanity!

To be precise, it was the label owners van (who was also a working musician). When I contacted the band, maybe one member had a copy but even he wasn't sure he still had it and couldn't track it down. The Shackelfords 45 on Catalina is even rarer.

According to the label owners son, all of the Mark VII master tapes and 45 stock was destroyed in a storage unit flood in the 90's.

Also, this killer kiddie punker: The Detours on Galco 45 stock was also destroyed by being thrown into a lake south of Houston.

Not necessarily 45s, but apparently Shad O'Shea trashed (or otherwise discarded) all the Fraternity and Counterpart master tapes after closing Counterpart Creative Studios in 1991.

He did keep at least two copies of most releases, though...

(Pops) Record Store in Lexington, KY has boxes of Fraternity 45's from Dale Wright... I made an appointment, and was sadly unable to keep it, due to a local work problem, so I need to get back to see his 'back room' stuff, unless it has been picked over....This was a few years ago, so I am not sure if that stock is even around still.

Eastern Alliance on Wriga - leftover copies were melted one by one by the now deceased drummer since he detested the sound - performance of the group and the recording quality. He had made this mini "Devil's Tower" looking blob from melting nearly all his remaining copies, he told me he was inspired after watching Richard Dreyfuss creating his own Devil's Tower in his home in the "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" movie. Lucky for me that he saved five copies which I purchased from him back in the late 1980s.

Shames on RFT - Tim told me that only a few months before he finally tracked down one Shames member, the guy's mom had tossed out all the 45s that were in her house when she went on a clean-out spree. Besides the 45s, unissued tapes and a few acetates of unreleased tunes were also thrown away.

Yesterday's Children of "To Be Or Not To Be" fame tossed lots of stock copies off the roof of a shopping center during a performance. The crowd could've cared less. I'm sure the parking lot was littered with broken styrene 45s.

I heard from various 60s band members from down in New Orleans that they used to throw their unsold 45s at the Mardi Gras floats as they passed through The French Quarter. That would include lotsa Busy-B, White Cliffs, U-Doe etc. stock. Our pal Don Julio Blanco should be able to confirm this.

Openers Dick Rabbit threw copies of their new single into the crowd. According to the review, “Several of the records were thrown back” once the band started playing.​

Probably the Deltron single, not the Great Lakes one, but still funny.
