looking for a copy of power-children ask if god is dead on showplace.

Now I have found it, mine is a stock copy on the yellow Showplace label, with WS -218-A on the A side, and a Monarch delta number: 67413, which dates it to around August 67.

Bugger. Or wow, really. Two different recordings. Mine says WS-218-A-RE. And is a different recording than your YouTube clip. No God is dead and though I've got no internet connection in my ManCave, alas I could not compare directly, they sound like two different takes altogether.Which makes three versions, since the MGM is yet another version. And this is such a great song, a treat!

Excellent! Is there any way you can upload a sample for comparison purposes? Does your copy have any other dead wax info?

No other dead wax info. I uniformly suck at making sound files, but I'll give it a go tomorrow night. If I drink enough wine it just might work.

Here's something to add to the discussion - I've just heard a vintage radio ad for a Grateful Dead show at the Hullabaloo, June 16th 1967, supported by the Yellow Payges and Power, which used Children Ask as the musical backdrop, and clearly has the line "if he is dead." So, if the Showplace 45 pressing I have is from August 1967, and the subsequent revised MGM 45 was released in September, how come the 'censored' version was played in June? I'm really confused now!

That's weird. Also, seems strange to re-release a censored version in between the first (I assume it's the first) God is dead Showplace 45 and the cleaned up MGM version. Also, the RE Showplace 45 is an altogether different recording than your YouTube clip! For the first time I actually directly compared them. Mine has no bass during the opening and is more raw than the YT clip. Yours is more, eh, funky. I vastly prefer the RE pressing. Cool, 3 different takes!

I tried recording it but it sounds like it's in the bottom of a bucket. I need some assistance!

Also, do you have a scan of your stock God? (You can actually read RE in the bottom left of this scan)

I've noticed that the copy I have runs for longer than the 3.12 listed on the label, coming in at around 3.28.

Here's the MGM promo, which has the addition of the name Wallace to the writing credits.

But the MGM also have a slightly more polished quality to it so maybe Wallace "arranged" it? Really looking forward to any details regarding the recording(s) if you manage to get the former band members to reply.

Nice mancave!
How are you liking that yacht rock comp? ;)

Eagle eyes! I actually enjoyed it, but lacking the one song that perhaps will make me play it again and again. Nice backdrop to a sunny summer evening though.

And very important: this is not my Mancave. The Mancave is situated behind the silver birches (hardly visible) outside the window. Where no children are allowed! (the oldest making a guest appearance in the clip)
