Loose Enz on eBay is a boot

Someone brought this to my attention

It comes with a fantasy story about how it was discovered in Dad's amazing collection of otherwise common-as-dirt 45s. Stories like that are always suspicious but this one seemed particularly over-cooked to me.

The original is a Rite pressing and should have the concentric label indentations that you always find on Rite pressings.

I have chopped it up a bit so that other scammers can't use my scan to pull off an even worse atrocity.
 
Or maybe it really is a red vinyl copy, and the seller might have used Photoshop to change it to black. Simple task.

And if further proof is needed, on the eBay copy you can see the letter "M" in the deadwax, in the bottom left corner. The letter "M" does not appear in the deadwax of the original.
 
I have both the black and the red vinyl boot releases ( lucky me). Both sound terrible, by the way. Does the original pressing sound much better ? I hear it was a bad mastering job.
 
I'm not sure but I think the boots were sourced from the LP comp, and not an original.
The only time I saw a real one (at least 15 years ago) was a totally hammered VG minus at best copy that was scooped up out from under me, despite my better offer by someone else. The guy hawking it said it was a decent VG. That told me right there he was a doo-wop or blues 45 grader (old collectors who think anything that is whipped is VG).
 
Lot went for $120.
Winner (and I use that word loosely here) thinks he got a steal, but doesn't realize he overpaid by about $110 for the lot (figuring $5 value for the boot, $0.50 each for the rest).
 
So, how many authentic copies are out there ? One pictured above, in this thread, Mike, you saw a hammered copy, plus ? I'm guessing perhaps the mastering came out so bad that not many were pressed; like what happened to the Lords on Vance ?

If the winner is who I think it is, I'll bet he was bidding to win to obtain the elusive Lords / aka Lords Of London Shot label 45. That is by far their rarest release, I doubt there are more than 5 copies accounted for.

Well, Mark seems to be only person with a high grade copy. A PA collector has the hammered copy which i saw.
I don't know of any other copy but there should be a third somewhere, the copy used for the PA compilation back in the '80s.
According to Dave B, who found the label owner in the early '80s, all copies leftover from the pressing run were tossed in a dumpster - just a few years before Dave came along.
 
ahh!! I've heard that story too many times. We missed the Gentrys on Kado in a similar case of bad timing.

That's a good record. Unfortunately the seller's description reads "You may get a mint record, a VG record, a VG+ record, or even possibly a warped record." And that label looked worn. Of course these days there's no risk in taking a chance on a record on ebay, you can always get a refund.

Not familiar with them, so it didn't register.
I see a $20 copy on Pipsike, so I'll revise my estimate to $90.
