Harold Ott just sent me a copy of the new LOST SOULS Volume 4 cd and it's great as usual. Kinda cool to see the FEDERAL UNION acetate I found in a garage in Sacramento included. Most songs are taken from acetates and have a cool lo-fi vibe. Lotta mid-tempo jangly moodies. Good going Harold...STEVE BEESON & GEORGE TANK RULE!!!

I received my copy from Harold yesterday, and listened to it last night.

This just might be my favorite volume of all. Incredible stuff all around. While most will love the Federal Union acetate versions of "Can't Stop Can't Go", my fave o' the bunch is the Stepin' Stones "I Pity People", and the unknown group track. All 22 tracks are fantastic. Love the Vipers cuts, and their wild tempo changing instrumental, "Climax" is now my all time fave garage instrumental tune - and it goes over 4 minutes!!

Harold and the Psych Of the South gang are to be commended for their efforts. In this day and age, when comps are all but fleeting memories (good comps even more fleeting), the Psych Of The South series is an absolute essential purchase for anyone who loves the sounds we champion day in and day out.

Lost Souls Volume 4 - the top garage comp of the year.

I agree with MopTop - Volume 4 is the best of all the Lost Souls volumes, and the other three have been great. Some good janglers thrown into the mix always helps, but every song is pretty damn good. The booklet is huge with great stories behind the bands and songs, and scans of the acetate labels. This one's a required purchase.

Great news! I love the first 3 volumes.
I see there's a vinyl edition out soon - will this contain all the tracks on the CD?

The Lost Souls Vol 4 LP will contain the first 14 tracks from the CD. The runtime is too long to fit on 1 LP. I just got the reference acetate so it is coming along. Thanks so much to everyone who has commented on the new volume! If you guys have any questions or requests, I'd be happy to reply.

I'm an avid user of Spotify, love it that the 3 first volumes are available there! More of that!! :)
Great, yes I have all of the comps on iTunes, Spotify, and a few other services. After reading your post, I signed up Lost Souls Vol 4 for Spotify, but it takes a little while. However, I will have Vol 4 available for download in a couple weeks. I also have more photos and scans of many of the featured bands, would you guys like to see that kind of thing? I have amassed quite a collection of photos of 60s bands from Arkansas.

it took some time for the Lost Souls to cross the Alps but finally yesterday they made it via Wolfgang Voelkel's Mailorder...AWESOME LISTENING FUN all the way through, mostly moody, all (but one, The Coachmen - Tears of Blue) unheard & uncomped, excellent research job as always, a perfect mix (good ideal to put the hilarious Climax at the end), the pretty well remastered acetate-sound gives the whole thing a genuine, rough but innocent vibe. Long live AR-Garage and Hurray to Harold! (waiting on Vol.5....)
