I don't think it is a holy grail item, because few collectors even know about it.
A holy grail item has to be a record that meets both criteria:
1 - nearly everyone wants, and
2 - has been a known-about rarity for years/decades. A disc that rarely, if ever comes up for sale

As for the Don't Tred On Me 45, a person on this forum had a copy for sale some years ago, I believe it was priced in the $250-300 range.I'm sure he can add to or correct my memory. I have seen a few over the years, but not a M- copy or very clean, so those may be at a premium if people like the sound of the songs. I believe I got mine for about $100.

Don't Tred On Me is listed in TeenBeat Mayhem. No known location for the group (songs are not in copyright)
Songs rated as
4.0 / 3.3
It is QCA pressing from July, 1969, also verified by the handwritten date on your label.

If you are selling, my advice, as always, is to list it here with offers, or auction it on ebay with a low starting bid, no reserve, and let the bidders have at it to decide a value.

I have completely searched this site. There is no reference to it at all. It was on a comp of only the rarest psych and garage. Aliens psychos and wildthings. All the 45's and songs listed are $800+. This is the only one never listed on ebay, popsike, collectorsfrenzy, or discogs. Except as part of the comp. I would like to see a scan of your copy or any reference to it from anyone.

A couple of further comments:

Don't Tred On Me was sold off-line, not on here. Lots of 45s change hands off-line. Just because something doesn't sow up on one of your chosen internet archive auctions doesn't equate to "never sold before".

A collector sold nearly his entire garage/psych collection of 60s 45s. Direct sales to other collectors and at a big city yearly record fair. He is a member of G45. I can't recall his exact selling price of this 45, but I'm positive it was not much more, if that, than my recollection posted above.

My scanner is no longer compatible with my laptop OS, so I can't scan my label, sorry.

As for every record being worth $800+ on the "Aliens..."comp, well, that is absolutely absurd. I infer that you think you have a four figure 45 or at least expect something close to that value. If you truly think so, put it up for auction. A 45 is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, ransom price aside.
If I go thru my collection and extract every 45 that has never sold anywhere "on-line" and that I think is great, I could buy a Greek Island like yesterday. As could many of the other guys here on the forum!

I bought a copy off-line a few years ago. As Mike mentioned, most are not in mint condition and mine is no exception. I paid several hundred dollars.

The flipside of this does have a copy entry (from 1965)
"Nate Reed" aka Tim Follett JR

The other side he copyrighted 1968 under his real name:

I'm the collector MTM is referring to. I provided about half the singles used on Aliens 4.
Some of those are worth $800+, a couple are 4 figures and there are unreleased tracks, but more than a few are had for under $100.

As Mike said, my collection was sold almost strictly privately. Very few were offered on the Bay, but by that time virtually all the big ones (and medium range ones) were gone, the exceptions being Figures of Light, the Monocles (Spider and the Fly) and the "John Doe & the Acetates" acetate (which did make Pipsike - :twistedevil:).
Don't Tread On Me was sold privately for at a list price of $300, condition VG+. It was an educated guess price, as I wasn't aware of other copies AT THAT TIME.
DTOM is borderline garage, hence its mediocre rating by the TBM panel. I gave it a substantially higher figure in my P45 ratings.

Thanks for that copyright info, Mikael. i will check on it.

It appears that G45 "member" (I use that term loosely) william has gone ahead and listed the 45 on ebay.
He failed to listen to reasonable advice, however, as the buy it now price lists at $2,250.00 with a note that offers can be made.

I wasn't going to comment further, but guys like william need to be called out for who they are - greedy bastards who come to the forum as a last resort, sign up without ever intending to take part, and practically demand to receive information on a particular 45 that is "ungoogeable" and fails to show any past sales result on the archival auction websites.

Had he posted something along the line of "May I ask, or inquire if anyone here can help me out regarding information and a price range for this 45..., is it a holy grail item?" There would be no need for further comment. I would refrain from a judgemental mindset to someone I have never met in-person. But, no, we got "need info on this holy grail 45.."

Sure, anyone can put whatever price they want, just as anyone is free to pay whatever price they wish. A true collector or dealer would realize the sound advice given, and proceed from there. The clowns who reject sound advice only serve to reveal themselves as total clueless idiots. This also seems to be commonplace with collectors or the record pimps (flippers) who are experts in some genres but completely clueless in others. I can't count the number of times I have been asked my "valuation" on a specific garage/psych etc 45, only to be rebuffed with "It sounds better than that" , if the price advice given was not rich enough for the other party. That, to me, identifies someone who is obsessed with nothing but complete and total greed. Like our new forum member.

Who thinks this record will sell for even half of his ransom price? I'm sure Mr. Lewis, if advised of background, would not pull the trigger if tempted.

Perhaps he read the recent comments - explaining his new price reduction from $2,500 to $2,250 (my lame attempt at humor).

He's probably under the short-term impression that the members here were out to mislead and/or "low-ball" him on his "holy grail." When is auction ends, the truth will be revealed.

I'm tempted to "make [an] offer" of $1.00

Perhaps Mark can move is posting to "Foolish People: Clueless ebay record sellers."

This fine example of a human being has over 10,000 feedback with a 98.3% positive rating. That's going to be encouraging for anyone who might even buy into his rap.
Like I just said on the Clueless thread about another overpriced psych single, it's too bad James Plummer isn't active. This would make a good Garage Greats reissue.

This sold for a best offer of between $322 and $325 (eBay no longer shows exact sold price for best offers).

Gee, maybe the people on this forum aren't idiots after all.
