NEW COMP: REVENGE '66 lim. edn (300) 60s garage LP

this is what I wrote to the makers of Revenge:

".. rare trax? sorry but I've got ALL of the 16, ok, a few have appeared on the US Garage Greats series, but MOST of the tracks have been pubblished on well known samples such as Pebbles (!) Psychedelic States, Gravels, Highs in the Mid-60s, Eva's Texas Punk from the 60s, Teen Blast USA, The Midnite Sound of the Milky Way.. . try to go diggin' deeper!"
the answer was
"if you dig your garage stuff on CDs or CDRs, that's sure that this one is not for you; in our humble opinion, tghis is one of the greatest collection put together on wax since a very long time! "

(as if Pebbles, HITH60s, and Texas Punk was not on vinyl..,)
anyway, No Way Out Records promised... "we'll go deeper indeed with the forthcoming volume, with some great stuff never re-released before" , so there's hope...?
BTW: I agree with Michael W and The Swyne: the cover-art is a 5 minute-job, looks like it was done by someone who has never eever listend to even one of the trax.... let's hope the Zombies will crash the NoWay Out-offices!

So...Sylvain must be the dude who put out / helped with that piece of dogshit?

I could answer your ill-reasoned diatribe posted above, most of is WAY off the mark, but you obviously have your mind made up.

I will say one thing- about the sharing part - most of us here have always been willing to share collections, information...you name it. I have personally met just about everyone on the forum who has made contributions to spreading the music, as you say. Joey D may have a big ego on the forum, but he is a stand-up guy, spending his own money, who, like most of us, prefer to have comps appear as a tribute to the legacy of the sounds. The days of cheap-ass, ill conceived, errant liner note vinyl comps had their place, before the world became aware. Now that we have the technology, and the knowledge base, those days are thankfully distant memories (for some). No need for vinyl comps sourced from someone else's work, or lame-ass mp3s. Where did the Expressions "One More Night" come from? Me, indirectly...thank you.

One more thing you are dead wrong about - Tim IS going to re-press Teenage Shutdowns, Vol. 1-15 again, on vinyl. He's also planning 500 CD-only ones, for band members (all given away to them for free), but the vinyl pressings will be in a larger quantity. I should know, for I have to get to work on the photo / info angle again.

As for continuing the series - this anti- "high number = lesser quality comps" theory may work judging the Pebbles or Highs series, but not here. I would say that the crude volume of TS planned has several cuts that would have made Back From The Grave if they had been discovered, or been able to have been sourced from a collector back in the 80s. So far the two are planned to be a crude, edgy volume, and a mixed jangle / moody volume.
If Teenage Shutdown Vol 16 and Teenage Shutdown Vol. 17 get an automatic "thumbs down" from dudes like Sylvain before even hearing them, their loss, not yours...the real fans!

Fab.
who gives a fuck it has taken them 5 minutes to do ? as far I'm concerned, I'm digging that DIY feel, without the same canonic band photo + 45 labels artwork that we've been enduring since a dozen of years, with all comps issued since TS looking the same.
You're a prog guy in disguise man, you believe that the quality of the artwork is the amount of hours spent on it. the more, the better, hum ?

Can't wait to get that Revenge comp, the track listing is excellent, the kinda thing that may convert kids to the 60s garage magic and give them the envy to go deeper.

you didn't get what I said. I can't wait to see those comps coming out, I'm glad they are. But issuing vol.16 and 17 whereas past volumes are mostly sold out just sound silly. Now you tell me they're being repressed, that's fine. But IMHO you should start a new series. I guess people are reluctant to jump into series with too many volumes. You'll have a hard time catching up newcomers into TS, those who gonna purchase vol.16 and 17 are those who got already all previous volumes. You really should start a new series.

I'm especially sorry towards dudes such as Mans, who probably used to be young, in its Crimson Shadows years, who is proud to tell all the hardcore stories that surounded his great, authentic and savage band in its 80s heydays, but who's now dropping some boring old man's posts, telling how things should be blablabla.

Wowowow Sylvain ;)
No need to be sorry for me! I DO think that it's a shame when people don't care about sound... simply because the RUSH you get from the original vinyls. I have never met anyone who doesn't get blown away the first time they hear original pressings of music they've just heard digitally before. And I actually believe that trebly and sharp mp3 sound is bad for your ears and create tinnitus a lot easier than warm analog sound. I started buying orig 45s in the 80's, when I was in my twenties, and I still do. I'm not rich though - I just spend what average people spend on records (ok... maybe these days most people spend zilch) but instead of getting 5 cd's I buy a coupla 45s or an LP.
I just spent $200 for a nice KAK original which I think is a real good deal... and YEAH!!! it sounds better than my old boot. It's not a cerebral thing, sound, it's a physical feeling. At least for me. Always has been. And it's no nerdy secret... or "something that only dogs can hear". It's not really even about the actual sound per se but rather how it affects me on an almost freakin spiritual level. Goosebumps, touching the soul and all that s**t. I don't get that from for example a GG series 45 - I only get annoyed by those, and that's the last feeling I need when listening to my fave music. Before I had heard orig 45s I thought Pebbles sounded just fine of course(with some exceptions), but once you start getting the real 45s it's hard to stop. We couldn't stand the sound on Boulders though, even back then. I still dig my old comps - just yesterday I played through Psychedelic Unknowns #1 and enjoyed every second of it.
And I love playing my 45s on a small portable instead of the more high end stereo btw. I.e. the way they "should" be enjoyed.
I have a wonderful girlfriend, who also love music and records and who also play in a (great) garage style band, Voladoras.
I still play in a band and release records, of course only on vinyl. The 'reunion' gigs we do with Crimson Shadows are almost more unmature and f**ked up than we were back when... except we aren't as drunk. But we ain't no choir boys either, that's for sure. We have NO interest in playing "better" or sounding more "pro" or anything like that.
Tomorrow I and my buddy Sebastian who I play with in The Flight Reaction have a club night with two bands and us dj'ing... original 45s only :)
It makes us way happier when the sound is great and every record is a nice little (or big) surprise. And guess what - it is sharing.
You know - getting older doesn't somehow magically alter who you are. BUt I play, I dj, I book bands and I get out and around. Farting around in my sharp clothes and beatle boots ;)
So take it easy Sylvain - I'm not dead yet haha

How comes Up from the grave comp came out on a bloody shitty CD only ? stick it in your ass !!! who wanna pay for some garage on CD ????? Now, I'll be happy to pay anyday the price for a vinyl copy, may you have released it ! And I just hope that in the meantime, another comp of the like of Revenge'66 will show up with the fabulous "I said no" by The Next Step (I precise that I of course downloaded for free that comp, no way I would have payed to get a CD !) so that I can enjoy SPINNING the LP.
Alec and I worked on that comp for years and you download it for free??!!! You are part of the reason why people including me don't want to shell out the bucks to release this stuff anymore. As far as I'm concerned, if you're ripping off people's hard work (and don't even have the shame to keep it secret) you don't get a opinion!!!! You don't exist:mad:

I'm not sure if he did download 'Up From The Grave' for free, his ranting mouth seemed to be going quicker than Casius Clay's in his heyday. But if sylvain did, well that's just shameful....no excuse.

The 'Entitled Generation' don't belong on G45.

The 'Entitled Generation' don't belong on G45.

They seem to be everywhere. They want their shit for free, they want it now, they want it made their way and then they want to be able to tear it down anyway. Occupy Wall Street somewhere else asspipes!!!!

Where can I download a bottle of wine and a nice medium rare steak? Yep - would be nice to get it for free haha :P

Thanks Axel...If I get my act together the UP FROM THE GRAVE & SO COLD comps will come out on vinyl by the end of 2012 or 2013. PUBLIC NUISANCE is getting a shiny new LP reissue from Jack White's Third Man Records real soon. (Thanks Ben) I already got the test pressing and it's great!!! Also...thanks to MopTop Mike I've recently located the guys in D.WITHERSPOON & FUTURE. Who were M.I.A. when I released the UP FROM THE GRAVE comp. ;)

Keep up the good work, Joey!

The last numbers of Teenage Shutdown were all great, so this is not the point. The point is about significance. What I want to say is mainly this:

Why not do something new and fresh? Something which draws new attention.
A new statement by Crypt Records.

I would think the TS "brand Name" and quality of past issues is well worthy of continuation. You know you'll get a high quality comp put forth by people who know what they are doing.
The songs on the compilation are what is more important anyway, not some new comp title.

And it's not like Timmy has enough to do a whole new series of this stuff...It's taken him years to get enough to do one more. So if he does release a new one with a new title, it may be the only one with that name. I say stick with the tried and true T.S. series;)

You could have made this a free forum comp. It would be hailed I'm sure. Instead you
wanted to CASH IN. Everyone knows that MTM is the sole owner of the Expressions 45.
Did you really expect that this turdilation was going to pass the g45 filter?

how comes then he announced a 60 volumes series when he launched TS if he's already short on material ?

you hence gonna stick to your crew of past TS customers. if you don't plan to increase the audience of the series, how comes TS stopped 10 years ago and it's now back ? If it wasn't selling enough back then and won't be selling more today, what's hence the business plan ?

not concerned by what you're saying. I'm not even listening MP3 on my computer, I have far enough good stuff on wax to spin on my shelves...

not concerned neither... But I'll keep on purchasing and praising every new comp of that kind seeing the light, and I just hope there'll be plently of them in the future !
