NEW COMP: REVENGE '66 lim. edn (300) 60s garage LP

Several are flat out incorrect, "Mary" was not recorded by the Vandals, for example.
Beyond shoddy. Embarrassing, actually. or Lame.

Seconded! They even use a Mogen David song that's widely available on a repro 45. This looks like it was done by some kids poking around garage songs on Youtube and grabbed whatever was showing on the right hand side of the web page.

I get the impression that most of these new garage comps are not made from original 45s. Rather the compilers grab the songs from existing comps, repro 45s and Internet sound files. I do that myself to make CDs to listen to in the car, but as Mike says, it's lame to release such a thing as a commercial package.

Kookie Cook Revenge came straight off the Ace/Big Beat cd. Losers!!!

But they are hand numbered!!! Some anonymous joker has taken some time to scribble digits on the sleeve. Wow.

The front cover pictures, colour combinations and fonts used for this comp are excelent. I'd take artwork like this over BFTG's corny zombies and undead cartoons anyday.

The BFTG sleeves were funny as hell when the records were released - but they didn't age very well haha. But I'd take a s**tty sleeve w/ great track selection from orig vinyls, correct info and good sound anyday over a correctly designed sleeve w/ some random mp3 mastered mishmash with all info wrong and most probably pretty crappy sound aswell.

I agree the cover looks good.

I have a quite a few friends not into collecting original 45s that would snap this up in an instant. They don't care what we think here at the g45. They are the same people eagerly buying every Garage Greats 45 also. And then they dj with them. Quite pleased to spin rare sounds and don't giving a shit about sound quality. Crank it loud enough and nobody notices, they are all drunk anyway. 98% of the audience at a concert/club don't care if you have originals or not, youtube downloaded or lifted from illegitimate sources. It is only in the strange world of Northern Soul anybody gives a shit at all if it is a legitimate spin. And I bet even that is starting to change. Sad but inevitable in a world where soon almost everything can be downloaded. Takes a bit of the mystery away.

Looks lika a fair amount of time & money put into something that does not quite hit the tatget intended. While there are several dozen worthwile sides deserving a well thought release program - is the day of the garage comp truly over? Mark's old Forum sets may be the last word on true quality & presentation. I still am amazed @ the number of hours he put into those sets & his benevolence with them.Otherwise - have you guys been noticing the avalanche of rockabilly, jump blues, & R&B reissues that have shown up in the last few months?

"Limited hand numbered edition of 300 copies. 16 US rare garage punk nuggets from the mid-60's. Tough times for true 60s garage punk lovers. What were the last worthwhile comps that really delivered the goods, and not some 3rd-rate lame and boring stuff sold as "never released before rarities" ? It was Norton's acetate series, and yes, that was ages ago ! We thought this had to change, and here's the result. Not only does REVENGE'66 feature KILLER stuff only, but guess what, many of the tracks featured here were once planned for inclusion on Back From The Grave vol. 9, may this wonderful Crypt series have been kept alive ! No need hence to let you know more what you'll get there."

The marketing talk doesn't explain where the cuts originated from so that may be a clue that they're from MP3s or internet sound files etc.

If anyone here buys it let us know how it sounds...

In the strange world inside my brain sound is quite important too ;)
If someone dj's with mp3's you HEAR it, if you have trained ears. It's very annoying to be sensitive to crap like that but it's a harsh reality. It's painful to listen too. And the GG 45s can be turned up to 11 and then some and still sound like the volume is too low. It's like a gin&tonic without the gin.

My blood boils everytime I see another of these class/soulless garbage comps.
Stop pissing on the history of punk.
