New edition of BFTG (4 CD bundle)

Volume 5 contains the same (16) tracks as the 1st Vinyl edition of Volume 5.

However, the order of the songs has been completely changed.

Volume 6 omits the following track from the 1st Vinyl edition of Volume 6:

The Werps - Love's A Fire

Again, the order of the songs has been changed.

The first edition of Vol. 8 was originally mastered by unknown persons (to me) but I guess it would have been Tim W and Erik L.
When Vol. 8 was re-mastered and re-issued about 10 years ago (?), I supplied transfers of nearly all the tracks from my collection, at Tim's request. The only 45 I did not own at the time was Just Too Much "She Gives Me Time". That one was remastered again from the original cassette that was used for the first issue.
The second issue sounds quite ok, but it could be so much better. Tim said he wanted a hot and loud transfer, a request that I took much too literally. I know I could do a much better job these days, and so could Tim (but he doesn't have the 45s any more).
Also I now have the original Just Too Much 45.

From the update section of the Crypt site:

BACK FROM THE GRAVE Part 8 digipac CD - REMASTERED and with updated liner notes, band photos, label scans

Volume 8 omits the tracks below from the vinyl edition of vol.8:

The Nightriders - With Friends Like You, Who Needs Friends?
The Night Crawlers - Want Me
The Dry Grins - She's A Drag
Satan's Children - Don't Go

New compared to the previous CD editions:

The Asenders - I Won't Be Home
The Ravenz - Just Like I Want Her
The Dark Horsemen - You Lied
The Sonics - Diddy Wah Diddy

Could you clarify this a bit. Are you referring to the CD issue or LP? You say the transfers you supplied were "hot and loud" -- does this mean you EQ'd the tracks?

Apparently Volume 8 has very recently been reissued again -- do you have knowledge as to how it was remastered?

I'm asking as I'm trying to figure out which titles I should upgrade. Thanks!

The answer is below (from this version https://www.discogs.com/Various-Bac...-Snarling-Mid-60s-Garage-Punk/release/8066464)

Which basically means, sourced from much cleaner 45s, recorded on much better equipment, with much more care. So what are you waiting for???? GET 'UM!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have Volume 7 and am a bit concerned about the highs. I've included a link to three tracks in my Dropbox should you or anyone else care to listen and A/B with another source. Is it just me, or is there something a bit "off" here? To my ears this goes well beyond merely fatiguing.

Please know that I love Mark's work and couldn't be more appreciative of all Tim has done for the garage community.

Re Volume 8 - I can't really remember if it was the CD, the LP or both that were re-recorded by me in 2005. It was the CD for sure, and maybe the LP. Hot and Loud means i applied some mild eq and maximising compression, but a bit more than I should have. This was before Tim had a proper mastering setup so I was trying to provide a finished product for him to use.

The latest issue of Vol. 8 uses these same re-recordings, but is re-mastered by Tim. In other words, he has used his latest software and mastering techniques to improve the same digital transfers that I provided in 2005. As for Volume 7, I didn't have anything to do with it, it's all Tims' work as far as I am aware.

Volume 7 omits the following (2) tracks from the 1st Vinyl edition of Volume 7:

Moguls - Ski Bum
Spiders - No Price Tag

The order of the songs has been changed slightly.
