New member quiz needed

I think new users should be quizzed, like "what was the Seeds big hit" or something. Anything!

Lately my site has been flooded from Russia, China, etc, causing my host to shut it down for an hour or two at a time. I have spent a few hours actually trying to ban all of China and the most eastern parts of Europe from accessing my site, but the bots still keep coming.
 
I seem to recall that on the old forum Mark had to verify new members by sending them a password or something like that. But I guess that would be to much hard work every time. Maybe do multiple things, like a quiz and e-mail verification... Or maybe you should have to use those "prove you're not a robot"-verifications that are on Blogger every time you post a comment, even though they're extremely annoying... I feel so sorry for Mark that he has to figure out this bullsh*t! :mad:
 
Thanks guys. I am onto it. No-one can register anymore without my email approval. I will try to clean up all the spam posts and fake members as soon as possible starting right now!
 
I've made a few changes. Registering is no longer automatic, and there are questions to answer that spam bots may find difficult. I have deleted all of the fake user registrations and posts. There may still be some security loopholes, but I guess we'll soon find out!
 
I get so much garbage at my site, too. I wish I had a fix for it.

did'nt they do daisy mae ? hopefully your site is back up soon as i'd like to hear that battle of the bands lp that has high on a cloud on it. i should probablly get off my lazy ass & figure out where i put my copy of that lp
