Norton Garage Acetates Question

Just heard from Miriam - those cd-rs are NOT legit - from Ms. Linna:

"These are NOT Norton issue and we have NEVER made any kind of arrangement with anyone. All Norton CD's are made by Norton and all Norton vinyl is made by Norton. Create Space(Amazon) says they will remove them within 24 hours."

I'll post any updates from the good folks at Norton...

I'm relieved to hear it!
And a bit ashamed to even think Norton were behind it... I guess I just thought since it was Amazon, they didn't come from some shady bootlegger.

Billy at Norton asked me to post this. I guess it's just reiterating what Miriam already said above.

Norton has NOT put the garage acetates collections or the Coba Seas on CDR. These are vinyl only collections. We will try to find out how this is being done as we have no such agreement with Amazon or anyone to manufacture these CDRs. Thanks to Tim Warren for bringing this to my attention and to Jeff and Reyes who have helped us out here tremendously in our rebuilding effort. Other "friends" who posted here saying they "can't believe Norton is starting to do this" and "this is bullshit on Norton's part", do you really believe we would do such a thing? We are struggling to salvage what we can of our stock, 24 hours a day for two months now. Do you honestly think I have time to make a Coba Seas CDR? I don't even have time to listen to the record! Why not contact us and ask us to clear the situation up? This is the first we've heard of these CDRs and it'd be more beneficial to everyone to get to the bottom of things right off the bat.

Agh, way to make me feel even worse! If anyone at Norton is reading this thread: sorry for even thinking you had anything to do with it.

Billy told me vinyl has been selling much better than CDs for some years now.

Think of how much bootleg stuff is being sold through Amazon. Incredible! But they get their profits and no penalties.

Same thing with GEMM. Several years back I ordered what I thought were legitimate CD reissues of the first 2 Los Shakers albums. Turns out they were CDRs of the legit CD reissues. Not to mention Midnight Records selling CDRs of various things and charging full price for them.

I wasn't trying to cast any aspersions on Norton when I started this thread.
I have probably 100+ releases from the label & they always do a great job so I couldn't understand why the Garage Greats were so poorly done. If they had copied the back cover from the LP I don't think I would have noticed since the discs themselves look factory pressed.
Even after Joey said they were CD-Rs I had to go back & look twice before I saw it listed in the description.

At least Norton is aware of it now & have put a stop to it.

I got a return authorization from Amazon after complaining so they're all going back.
