Not comped yet ?!

Here's a place for those of us waiting for someone to put rare garage gems on compilations. Please be sure they were not comped before posting them here. Let's start the wishing list...

Rare?...nope garage?...kinda, barely, maybe gem? say what?

More to the point would have been, if you do not have anything positive to say, why bother pissing down a thread with only negative points.

Comments like that are what I'm facing everytime some old crud collector get's exposed to garage. I remember one particular moment when a dealer I bought from in the past wondered why bothering listening to Things To Come when they sounded like an inferior Them.

I wasn't negative at all. Negative would have been "that song sucks" All I said is that it's barely garage, if at all and sounded like Jan & Dean. I kinda like the song, I also have that 45. And THEM sounds like a superior Jan & Dean, if that helps.

The Internetz.

To add to the original poster's intent. I don't think the Thunderbirds Century 45 have been comped yet. Has it? Thought it was slated for some of the new Crypt comps but seems to still be out of the loop. (sorry if I am wrong on this, shit distribution have kept me from buying any of the new releases. Was opting for supporting a local shop but they are soooo slow) And it is not on YouTube.

the THEM track is a very good song. that the Lyres improved the whole thing is another story. this song is also a good example for the difficult usage of the "garage" label. it's not what most people would call garage. but it's teen beat, no doubt about that. great drive, a certain sloppiness,... good stuff!

and as for the Jan & Dean reference... I don't really see/hear it. ok, it's "pop" sounding, and there's one guy singing, and another guy is singing harmony. but that's about it.

I give it a 2.5 on the mop-o-meter.

I'm no expert on what's been comped, so anything I post here could be out of place. But a far better song of the same name - A Girl Like You - that is, higher rating and more clearly garage, is the one by the Skunks:

Listen particularly to 0:14-0:19 for the Jan and Dean influence...
