Obvious rip-offs

Does anyone know the recording dates of the RS' 2120 Sth MI Av.
and the Baskerville Hounds' Space Rock?
and then, who ripped off who?
thanks!

"2120" inspired a lot of ripoffs... from Thee Midniters, to the Bangs on Orchid ("Tab Top").

For years I had the Destination Single, Sugar & Spice, by The Cryan Shames. The Flip is Ben Franklin's Alamac. When I played that side, it was their version of "If I Needed Someone" so I thought that is what "Ben Franklin's Alamac" was supposed to sound like, and I thought, what a rip-off having never hearing their version of that Beatles song. BUT the internet came around, and I eventually heard the correct version, and sold the miss-press to a collector. According to Wiki, If I Needed Someone was never released as a single in the USA.

Marshmallow Way - Sugar & Spices: 2 ripoffs at the same time!
(some) words from the Searchers/Cryan Shames' Sugar&Spice + the guitar riff from the Outsiders' Time Won't Let Me

The Haunted borrowed from both "Season Of The Witch" and Otis Redding's "Security" on their album, so much so that I find it mildly irritating. A popular target for garage bands were the Turtles "Almost There".

Been a while since I've listened to the LP but I think 1-2-5 is the only original song on the LP. "Horror Show" is of course the Small Faces "E Too D" and "Searching For My Baby" is mildly altered version of a Johnny Nash recording called something like "Gotta Find Her". There's another one of the many "2120 S Michigan" riff instros, a straight take of the Tams (and others) "Untie Me", etc, etc. I've never looked at the cover and LP label of an original, I would be curious as to whom they credit these songs....

so what your saying is you'd pass up a haunted lp for a dollar because of what you said above ? perhaps you'd love to sell me your copy for a dollar

There are no songwriting credits on the cover or label of the Haunted LP. The label credits all songs as "Arranged Jurgen Peter", who was the "leader and rhythm guitarist". The cover also lists the songs with no credits, but a note in the liners states "Most of the numbers are originals but several, such as 'Out Of Time' have been recorded by other groups". That's it.

It appears that the Haunted themselves were probably aware that they could not confidently claim songwriting credits for most of the songs. So they just kept quiet.

Thanks Mike and Mario

No problem on my end;)

I made a Monterey Bay CD for myself.
