old movies...

Um, yeah, I've bought a bunch of things from him, they all play great for me and the quality is never bad, usually excellent. I think a lot of the stuff is from video tape originally but sometimes from celluloid. I would recommend the Hippie Heaven vol. 1 & 2, and 1940s San Francisco ones without hesitation. I also picked up some others where the original out of print big company editions would've cost more than I was willing to fork over.

That's what I had thought. I was on the Video Beat's mailing list for a few years but never bothered to buy anything from them as I had heard that they used DVDRs. Also heard something to the effect of them running their logo along the bottom of the screen.

Have a look at archive.org for public domain vintage footage. You might find some of the stuff these people are selling is available there for free download.

You might want to check out some of the BitTorrent sites.
Hungercity has a lot of cool TV related: Ranch Partry, Shindig, Byrds TV appearances, Psychedelic Revolution documentary, 2 60's garage compilation (Digital Video Archive) etc
Cinemageddon also has some rare beach party/hot rod films.

I saw links to this on IMdB once I think, but they don't have what is on the first two Hippie Heaven collections. The old San Francisco films and the BART line films do seem to be there now, but that's one I want to be able to lend to non-computer type people. I did get to see the 1915 Alice and a couple of neat Disney Alice in Cartoonland shorts! I don't seem to have the capacity to burn playable DVDs myself. Have also wanted to see those '60s films with DC5, Pacemakers and Rattles etc. but not enough to pay much. I did finally pay to see Beloved Invaders and found it kind of disappointing even knowing a little Japanese and loving the Ventures, oh well. Have never been able to figure out why BitTorrents don't work for me, except for one time where it was just one single album.
