Overlooked and unrated

How about "Hard Times" by Timothy, on WBM? I can't find a clip or any mention on google. WBM records located in Minden, LA. Has anyone else heard it? I think I supplied a sound clip for TBM but it was either accidentally or deliberately omitted. It has a driving country / loner type of sound, garage-y to my ears.

Sounds promising to me!

I think this one from Billy Lee Riley is also rather good. Rocker gone jangle/garage. Though it is in the forthcoming TBM addendum.

Listed but not rated in TBM:

A portion of this was featured in a Mad Men episode, but the full song is excellent with the horns. Kudos to the videomaker on this one (a transformed bit of Godard).

I haven't listened to this in years...still sounds lousy to me. The mariachi horns ruin a decent ballad. The out of tune guitar break is grating as well. They tried to make a Buckinghams type pop tune and failed miserably - shoulda paid to have J.W. Guercio produce the song.

Hmm, can't find this clip anywhere on the CD dubs you sent my way...must've been a later addition?

Put it to the committee!

That's what the "X" signifies. Not TBM-worthy. It doesn't denote a "bad" / lousy song (even if some of us think so), just a song that 'sound-wise' falls somewhere beyond the nebulous boundary explained in the book.
For example, songs like "Walk Away Renee" are shown as an X whereas the flipside is listed first, in priority, and rated, because it fits the TBM standard.
The reason some B sides are listed first, and not in strict Aside B side order, is that i wanted to show the stronger / better side in the discography. This was long before the ratings and descriptions were implemented. I still get questions / corrections regarding this flip-flop, but I do mention the reason for it in the book.

If the consensus is that a song doesn't qualify for TBM then giving it an X as MTM did for this one is the correct thing to do. If the song has some merits but isn't TBM material, then giving it a 1 does it a disservice.
well no consensus yet , but personally I would not include it . You'd probably have to include lots of later 60's efforts if you think this fits .

How about The Bruins "The Slide" / "Believe Me" on Roulette and to a lesser extent their other 45 "Go On And Cry" on General American. Not in TBM, but maybe they are Canadian or something?
