Any good recommendations for portable players? I've used many of them from time to time and i'm leaning towards a Numark PT, but I'd like to hear opinions.

Requirements:

1. be audible during a record show, not just with headphones.
2. preferably not take 6 C or D batteries or more, 2-4 AA would be best.

oh yeah, and fuck the Fisher Price Big Bird which does a great job of putting cracks in 45s, and fuck the Columbia GP-3, which, at least in my version bought in Japan, has a warble even when plugged in.

The Numark has the advantage of being able to fit into a conventional LP carrying case. The Vestax is fine, but a little unwieldy for record shows. I doubt any of the better portables use anything less than C's. Pretty sure even my speaker--less Soundburger uses C's.

the portable numark is what I use for record fairs etc... it has a speaker and headphone input, even a usb for computer use. It does require batteries if your on the field.
IMO its a bit bulky for record fairs and it's very forgiving playing defective records (slight warps, light scratches) if you play a slight warped disc you wont be able to tell until you play it in a regular turntable. That has been my experience.

The croxley is another portable player that is great for carrying it around and youll be able to play records in the tightest spots ina crowded room.
