Whatever happened with Modboy's comp? I remember reading that he sent transfers to Mark but that they were screwed up somehow...I also seem to remember that it was going to include some extremely rare / one of a kind stuff?

Interesting stuff Jerry. Inverness had a great little second hand record shop but I think it's gone now. Aberdeen has two small record shops, though one is currently relocating but they both tend to offer pretty low end items and the 45s especially are limited. The Cavern, one of the two, is where I got all my early garage comps, all the pebbles, Bftg, scum of the earth, etc, etc. it was great for those comps, a little bit of soul and modern indie but 45s, beyond reissues, were virtually nil.

Thanks for the information Mr Beast. I was talking to a Northern Soul collector yesterday who was in Inverness 2 years back. He mentioned a small record shop half-way up a flight of steps, where he picked up a rare early 60s UK Jazz album. Is this the place you referred to? He also told me about a Vintage market in Inverness, mostly clothes, but he did find some 70s punk 45s there which he used for trades.

To be honest, the chances of finding anything rare and reasonably priced in a second-hand record shop nowadays is very remote. Even car boot sales are getting to be a dead loss.

Yeah, that's the place. I picked up a few good lps at decent prices, mostly indie stuff. It might still be there but I was sure I'd heard it closed a couple of years back now. In the market there is (or was) a good wee record shop but it was all modern stuff or reissues.

Strangely, there has been a sudden flood of 60's nights in Aberdeen. There was always a decent Northern scene here but now there are numerous R&B, mod/beat and psych nights, which is refreshing to say the least given over the last few years I've had to travel to Edinburgh/ Glasgow and even Belfast for my fix.
