I think part of The Pretty Things not being more revered in the States is their not crossing the pond in 1965 or ‘66 when they could have been a major influence on teenagers bashing out the big beat by showing up on tv; being on Fontana wasn’t exactly ideal - Phillips didn’t fare too well pushing product in the US until the 70s. With the proper push The Pretties could have easily been on par with The Yardbirds.I think I'll watch that again tonight. Not too many Pretty Things fans around here.
Thanks I did look them up and they sound horrible compared to the original mono versions.Look up both songs on YouTube by title and then the word stereo and you’ll pull up what appears to be some DES creations of them - I don’t think those songs ever got stereo mixes made at the time they were recorded.
There are all manner of DES created stereo mixes out there - some are poor, a lot of so-so attempts and some that are really convincing - those Pretties' songs are not my cuppa joe for stereo listening. Thanks I did look them up and they sound horrible compared to the original mono versions.
I saw the Pretty Things twice in 1964. The first time was at The Mercers Arms, a pub in Coventry, my home town. Trust me, it was nothing like this sad pantomime. Can't choose between SF Sorrow and Parachute which one I love the most then again I don't have to I love to play them both in one sitting. Like the Beatles's Revolver and Rubber Soul.
I think more fans here than one thinks.
Apples and oranges bub. I love 'em both.I saw the Pretty Things twice in 1964. The first time was at The Mercers Arms, a pub in Coventry, my home town. Trust me, it was nothing like this sad pantomime.
