Psychedelic States CD's

I just got the New York vol. 3 CD, which for the most part sounds pretty good.
It was great to finally hear the Luv Wons acetate in its entirety - Please Don't is fantastic.
I believe this is MTM's copy? Unfortunately there are no label shots of the acetate - will this be pictured in TBM?

Bumping this.
Mark, if you have a spare minute, I'd love to see the label scans for this. Please Don't is killer!

I know that a lot of the tracks for these comps are taken from cassette recordings of 45s, plus I have been told that Roger does the sound processing on a home PC.

I've not bought anything on Gear Fab for well over 10 years.

I've not heard any of those 'Psychedelic States' so can't comment but I wasn't impressed with the sound restoration on 'Psychedelic Crown Jewels'....infact it put me off buying other Gear Fab releases.

Indeed Mark! That was a wise choice Colin. I second Bosshoss remastering the entire series. The sad thing is there is so much stuff on these that may never resurface with a proper transfer. I bought a bunch of them at one time, and quickly resold them on the bay.

I did the Gear Fab Skeptics "Retrospective", and I must say, it sounds pretty good, tho nowhere near the Boss Hoss treatment. The former manager had promised to transfer his safety masters, but after payment all he delivered was a lousy cassette dub. Two Skeptics members failed to answer requests for interviews, unfortunately. Must be the lingering effects of Crocker-dom....

The Skeptics CD is definitely one of Gear Fab's better releases in years...

Because none of us knew about a third Jerry Waugh / Skeptics Thrush label 45 at the time. The copy sold on ebay is the first and only one I've ever seen. I don't even have this one listed in my book. Just proves that there are always new "Finds" out in the wilds, and we will never know every garage sounding 45. I've found a handful of unknowns to even long time collectors in the past few years.

The reported former manager did not have copies of any of the Thrush label 45s to contribute to the comp. As I've noted, he claimed to have reel to reel safety masters, but he only submitted a cheap normal bias cassette with terrible sound.

For what it's worth, I too think the "Psychedelic States" series is just OK (maybe a 5 out of 10) and when I see that something is a GearFab reissue I am very cautious before shelling out my hard-earned cash.

Some of you guys appreciate this series so...

The Psychedelic States series is ok in my book. I'm not afraid to say I own every single one, including the latest (NY) volume. I like this series because it features many unheard nuggets, at least to my ears. I can always appreciate that in a compilation, despite all it's other flaws.

But the skipping in tracks?
No - that I DON'T like.
I agree with Julio and me too I got all volumes. Of course, if you follow the State by State concept, completeness must be the main goal so a few downers will be accepted. And I don't complain about the audio quality, most probably I'm not an audiophile either (it's true skips really suck* but frankly I can't remember many on this series). Anyway, I think Roger Maglio and Gear Fab are doin' a fine job, and I hope the series will continue..
* note: I distinguish passable skips (which won't ruin the rhythm) and bad skips

Have they addressed the sound quality issue in the last few volumes mentioned above? And does Missouri (2CD) overlap the existing Missouri volume?

Since I grew up on Pebbles, I'm able to live with the sound quality. I actually met the guy behind this series at an Orlando Florida record show back in 2001. I liked what I bought the first day and returned to buy more the next. He was not only very passionate about the music, but he remembered me for the day before. He gave me a nice price cut (without my asking) for the Sunday purchases. Color me as a fan.
