R. I. P. Drummer Ed Cassidy dead at 89

Great drummer, great band. I'm glad he lived a long life.
R.I.P.

Spirit was one of the finest bands ever. 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus is one of the best LP's one could ever own. Ed Cassidy was an amazing man.He had a very interesting tecnique with his drumming. His bio is a great read. R.I.P. Ed........& Randy California....

Agreed, Darren! One of the most underrated bands to this day. The first four albums all have much to recommend them!

This is very sad news to me. I happened to see Spirit, I believe in the 90's sometime--Just Randy California, Ed Cassidy and a keyboard player--put on a terrific show and Ed Cassidy was a very dynamic drummer in concert. I happened to be extremely lucky when the concert was over to see Ed just walking around in the backstage area which was fenced off but still kind of open. I went up to him at the fence and introduced myself and we talked for a good 15 minutes with no one else around. He had just gotten done working with Merrill Fankhauser whom he had known since the sixties. He was quite surprised that I had heard of the Fankhauser-Cassidy Band and that I was aware of their music. Told me all about Merrill in the 60's. He was genuinely one of the nicest guys I've ever talked to and I've always treasured that 15 minutes.
