R. I. P. Paul Kantner

Even if you're not a fan of psych or hippie stuff, the first Jefferson Airplane LP is as good of a folk rock LP (with some nastiness and druggieness importantly added) as it gets. For me, the first two are essential LPs. Too bad Kantner had to lead the band into the boring 70s and awful 80s versions.

Always flew the Airplane, 'tho their political crap that pollutes their music from 1969 onward made them unlistenable most of the time.

They were always miles above any of their SF contemporaries - Dead, Moby Grape, etc.

Paul's finest moment is the brilliant "Watch Her Ride", my fave JA track.

I agree. Some selected early tracks and demos are great. But politics and rock n roll music don't mix. I'd go so far as to say injecting politics into music is an insult to listeners.
I agree, chicks and cars. What more is there?

I do like Surrealistic Pillow, Crown of Creation, and Blows agains the Empire plus some of the individual stuff like Manhole, and Sunfighter (in case Paul's strumming on those). RIP.

Hmmm...I wonder how many beer drinking garage songs are there?;)

Ooh - good discussion topic, Joey! I'll start the list with my favorite: Beer Bust Blues by The Scotsmen!

Speaking of insults...here's the ultimate insult. WHAT A FUCKING GOON. And this creep is running for president. If you go on youtube there are videos of this weirdo trying to sing all over the place. And a lot of people call him the rock and roll govenor...ARE YOU SHITTING ME? :flush:
