Building on the Frito Lay Radio Spot thread I thought it might be fun to post other wacky commercials from the 50's and 60's.

I'm going kick it off with a Count Macabre radio spot. He hosted horror movies alongside a skull named Erik on his self titled show and later had a talk show entitled The Wednesday Show on local WBRZ-TV, Channel 2 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During his time on TV, a local garage band The Connoissurs recorded the aforementioned 45 as a tribute to him and here it is to enjoy.

PS - This is one of the cooler hidden garage gems that doesn't get nearly the credit it deserves.

Next week we're "Stronger Than Dirt" but for not ENJOY!

As this is a 60's garage forum it seems appropriate to post the Radio Spot for Satan's Sadists due to it's Standells connection. For those not familiar with this film, it stars Russ Tamblyn who is best known for South Pacific. He also has two famous relatives: his younger brother Larry Tamblyn, the founding member, singer & keyboardist of The Standells and Amber Tamblyn's uncle. She is best known for her role in the last one or two seasons of House, MD.

In 1960 the Marquis Chimps (Enoch, Susie, Baron and Hans) were signed to appear in a trio of television commercials for Brooke Bond Foods, makers of Red Rose Tea. The commercials featured the chimps in parodies of a Wild West shoot out, a golf match and the most popular, a wild nightclub with a swinging chimp band singing the praises of Red Rose Tea. The song is a wild rhythm & blues screamer that graced the radio airwaves in the Pittsburgh area including the infamous Mad Mike (Metrovich) show on 1590 WZUM-AM in Carnegie, PA.

Saw that film at the old Queens Chapel Drive-In Theatre in Hyattsville, MD when I was in high school. It was a 'biker flick' triple feature that night.

I miss drive-ins. The only one left in New Hampshire is down the street from me. The last film I saw there was Kill Bill Vol. 2 and I couldn't help but think that was EXACTLY how Tarantino wanted it to be seen.

Just in case you're thirsty here is a Barq's Root Beer ad Circa mid 60's. It's not on the 45 label but Don Cole is reponsible for it.
