I mentioned two Ray Brown & The Whispers LPs in my post. No youtube or comps for most of the songs exist, so I thought I would share a few.

The last album by Ray Brown & The Whispers is a mixed affair. It seems Ray sacked the band half way through the recording and The Whispers get no acknowledgement on the cover. But the best songs are the ones where they provide the backing.



The standout song is '(Aint It) Strange', but that's easily found on youtube and been comped a few times, I think.

The song that got my attention is 'Talking 'Bout Our Love'. It's credited to A. Castillo. I could find no mention of him or the song anywhere. If anyone has any info, let us know. It's a great song

It's Adrian Castillo from UK bands Force West, Oscar Bicycle and Shakane. The original was released as the B-side to Force West's "Gotta Find Another Baby".

I'd agree. Thanks for clearing that up. I knew it had to be a cover. Funny how the original is 'Talkin' About Our Love' and the Ray Brown version is 'Talking 'Bout Our Love'!

That Saxons 45 was always a tough score...even back in the 80s.

It was right around the corner from my table at Austin, and the guy showed it to me on Saturday after he just put it out!

Right place, right time, I guess.

Price wasn't horrible, either.

I got mine in 1988, via a trade with Mark Crocker, when he tracked their manager and had a couple of unplayed copies.

Whatever happened to him?

He was kind of a strange guy and very hard to deal with, from my recollection.

He stilll has master tapes, tons of photos & scrapbooks from groups, and of course records. No longer actively collecting....Tim Warren wanted to form a S.W.A.T. team to storm Crocker's place and take back all of the stuff he stole or never returned and return the stuff to the people Crocker had contacted.

I've heard that Gary Lee Yoder finally got his Oxford Circle acetate back at some point...
