Record Store Day colored vinyl reissues

Reminds of the early 90's and late 80's when comics got hot. They exploited the hell out of everything until the whole thing imploded. Double covers, alternate pressings, everything manufactured to be a further or immediate collectable. How many of us think those Third Man Limited Editions will maintain that high end collectibility? I don't blame them or mean to single them out for taking advantage of a hot market. iI's business. In the end it's the greedy flippers who have no love of music who will screw the whole thing up. To some extent, they already have.

Just stop RSD full stop. It's shite.

There was a story on the radio this morning about "The Vinyl Revival". Apparently 20% of those buying vinyl now don't own a turntable. They interviewed one such cretin who said "Yeah, I just buy it to give my room that retro feel". I'm generally opposed to the death penalty but these guys push it.

Exactamundo.

I don't care what colour it is, but I'm going to try to bag the Elevators 10" with the French ep mixes. I'm not proud, I just want those sounds, banging out in my front room. I won't be flipping it.
I do agree with the above point though, RSD tends to bring out the worst in a lot of people.
Speaking of The Elevators, saw Roky in London last night, playing the Elevators set. Emotional? You bet. Reverberation and Earthquake turned into monstrous, throbbing slabs of sound. Wish I could have seen the other original members like you guys across the pond got to, but you have to make the best of what you got. Sorry to go off topic.

I'd loved to have been there. A couple of pals went to see the Elevators in the States last year, I intended to go to the London show but impending parenthood ruled it out. Glad it lived up to expectations. I definately need to stop breeding, it's ruining my record budget/gig availability

I'm all for enterprising ways & means to make money. It is the capitalist / anti-Bernie Sanders nature inherent in me.
Good for those folks who are into RSD and all those made for the day releases. It brings people into the stores.
Generally good for business, tho I'm sure it can be a major hassle.

It is of zero interest for me, and probably for most g45 forum members. Why even voice disdain, then?

RSD is for hipsters and everybody hates hipsters (most people here probably do, anyway). Vent on...

Q: How do you kill hipsters?
A: Drown them in the mainstream.

I could care less about RSD. But I am bored by all these ugly colored vinyl releases.

I can't imagine someone paying a penny extra for any color, some even look downright ooglah to me like a bubblegum pink 45 with a green label I remember not that long ago, yeech. Just the quality of vinyl counts (as in polystyrene bad). You'd think maybe for little kids records though... although I do remember an old Split Enz LP with wild hologram like etchings on it that seemed cool, but I assumed they were all like that. Remember the premium picture disc madness of the '80s? Is that junk worth anything now? I mean picture sleeves are cool, especially those laminated EP sleeves, because you want to have a sleeve of some kind anyway.

I don't share your politics but I do share your love for record stores, and think RSD is great as long as it helps all those little family businesses to stay open and make a decent living. Fuck colored vinyl (especially the translucent kind) and fuck Parlophone for not repressing the Pink Floyd early demos.

Don't care about colored vinyl, if there is something I want to buy and there is no option for black vinyl, I'll buy it regardless of the visual color.

Having multiple options of a release pressed on various colors or translucent vinyl is great for buyers who prefer color or clear. If they don't buy them, the labels won't bother with pressings that are not the usual black vinyl.

More options than black vinyl = more potential sales = Good all around for consumer and business.
