Reproduction / boot garage 45 list

Sure thing, makes sense. There is a scene in the Death documentary where a record collector compares the original A-Squared release with the boot and mentions how the cover looks like a photo-copy (speaking of fooling others ;) )

Unlikely anyone would be fooled by the cover with these comparative scans to reference. Funny thing, i don't have the repro 45, so I can't comment on that. I kept this reissue for the PS as I had two A-2 singles, but only 1 sleeve. FWIW the original has a Bell Sound stamp in the run off vinyl.

Looks original but I don't have experience with this one. I added some to the list before I knew that the repros said 'reissue'. Rather than take them off, I just included that info. After all, someone could mark out 'reissue' or somehow obscure it.

I don't have an original copy. But the repro label is exactly the same design as the original. I have a 45 on Mascot (P-Nut Butter) and it looks the same as the Spiders repro , same font, color etc. as seen here

This Spiders reissue (put out by the guy who owns Mascot now) was previously discussed here. It's got 2011 written in the deadwax.

A few new repros are around

William Penn Fyve - Swami / Blow My Mind on Thunderbird. I haven't seen a decent label scan of this yet but it's described as an exact reissue

Chessmen - I Need You There on Bismark - not many copies around, I picked up one on colored wax. Says REISSUE in small print on the label

Contents Are - repros of both of their ROK singles included with the Machu Picchu reissue of the Through You LP (which makes it a very good deal by the way). MACHU on the label gives these away

Any others I've missed?

This is a scan of an original. The slope towards the center hole is the giveaway if are holding one. I bought this before it was bootlegged in the mid seventies for the northern soul scene.IMG_20150107_0055.jpg

7 Dwarfs repro dead wax markings (hand written) 1168 A / 1168 B - unless I happen to have the original

If you zoom in on my scan you will see the deadwax markings start with a "V". I am at the moment going off a scan on my laptop, but if you want I will dig the record out, and give a better description.

So, it's the original that has the off-centre label: not the bootleg as stated elsewhere.

Must be. I have only ever had the one copy, and never bought the boot, so I can't swear to it. However I can swear that mine is an original. It was a new discovery on the northern scene in about 1976, and I was desperate to have one, and play it before the bootleggers got it. Records used to last a maximum of 12 months before they were booted, and if you wanted to be a cool DJ, (as I did), you had to play them before everybody got their hands on the tune. I guarantee there were thousands of boots of the 7 Dwarfs done. It was a huge record on the scene at the time, but I dazzled the crowd in Aberdeen by playing it 6 months before they could... ha ha ha.

If it's the same as mine (and I think it is), then it is an "A" not a "V". It says "1168A".
Mine looks exactly the same as your does Keb. I always assumed it was a boot, but I don't know for sure.

It defies credibility that both the boot and the original would have identical off-centre labels. That would be very difficult for a bootlegger to "fake".

Just did a bit of research with my old nerdy northern collector mates. It was bootlegged twice for the UK scene. One with a brighter yellow label than the original. However both boots have the "e" in "Dame" smudged in the same way, the original does not. They also said that they think there may have been two runs of originals, one with off center labels, the other without, but they all had off center copies. All have the "F/W" scratched in not stamped as John Manship said in his book.

That 7 Dwarfs mess again! This is all great additional info - I'll check my copy when I get home. It's pressed on quite heavy vinyl and the label is centered + a slightly darker kinda mustard yellow than the ones on these scans. It may still be a boot of course, but it really looks and feels like a 60's pressing... but then again the fact that I got it pretty cheap from UK says 'bootleg' though...
