Mark I agree with you on alot of things that have been said about selling 45's on the forum. However you closed the topic and I have one thing left to be said, why list bidders names on the forum?

I know of very respectable collectors who do not want their names out there. It happened to me the with my last sale and I do respect that. Privacy is a precious thing! I have 7000 45's coming up for sale (yes I'm quitting collecting) and the privacy of my fellow collectors means alot to me.

I was planning to try and sell most of my collection through the G45. Alas with the new and respected rules I will make a private set sale/auction list.

It is what it is. All the best,
Jim

If you are going to offer 45s here I believe in being fair to all. Bids must be placed in the thread so everyone knows the status of the bid amount. The person making the bid should be known.
Thusif I want to bid , I post a bid amount in the thread. Not by a PM personal message. That way we know the auction is fair. It is quite easy to rig an auction and or play favorites when the bid activity is not posted for all to see.
Set sales are different , as the process is first come, first purchases. These can be done via pm to buy a 45.

Jim,

At the top of the "rules" writeup, BossHoss states that these are guidelines not rules. They are suggested not required. if you want to have an auction and respect the privacy of the bidders, you are allowed to do that.

Good luck.

What Rich says above is true. If you have firm ideas of your own, just make your own rules. The guidelines are for those sellers who are unsure how to proceed and would like guidance to get started.

Just a thought, but an 'auction' which can be terminated at any random time and with undisclosed bids, is not really an auction at all. It's an invitation to make an 'offer' with a minimum specified. Auctions usually allow bidders to increase their bid if they are outbid, until the auction ends at the specified time. That's the whole point of an auction.

There are 3 options - Auction, Offer, and Set Sale. Choose whichever you like and make your own rules, but perhaps call it an 'offer' when it's not really an auction with open bidding.

Mark's observation should be implemented into the guidelines for poAll bids posted by the bidder within the seller's thread, no closing of auction before posted closing date. Jim's recent "auction" was not an auction, as he accepted a hidden / non posted offer for all three items long before anyone even had a chance to bid on any 45.

If a seller does not want their customer base to reveal themselves, or post their bids, the seller should choose to list the 45 under the "Offers" category.

I have added a section to the guidelines which I hope will clearly define the difference between 'AUCTION' and 'OFFERS'.

Mike,
Thank you for pointing that out. You are right. I would NEVER rig an auction or try to screw people over. In my own defense I did post the 45's for sale before the forum guidelines were made. And as for the 45's sold I did point out that they were sold as part of a package deal. The buyer, who knows me also wanted a few more 45's and offered a very good price for a total of 8 records.
Under the current guidelines I would never have accepted that offer as I totally believe in being honest and transparent!
My bad,
Jim
