Shades girl group - "Tell Me Not to Hurt"

I've always liked your music taste. At the moment my dl speed is super slow (I tether through my cellphone) and I'm unable to sample, but looking forward to hearing this. real soon. Thanks for posting this!

The link I posted is a UK download site, but you can listen to the full songs on it. For some reason Numero Group doesn't have it on their website yet.

For fans of girl groups, crude downer garage, Shaggs, etc. Only a couple of the songs are standouts.

The Shades were from Etna Green, Indiana, which is south of South Bend, Indiana, which is not far from where I live. I'm intrigued by how this "release" came to be. It sounds like the tracks were taken from tapes, possibly a band member? Notably missing is the track "Send Him Back Home To Me", which coupled with "Tell Me Not To Cry" was supposedly released as a single on Fujimo, but in 30+ years of digging through millions of records throughout the area I have never found one, nor have I seen one in someone's collection. If this does actually exist, it is the rarest Fujimo by miles. "Denny", released on Metropolis, is incredibly hard to find and the only copy I have ever seen is the one I own. According to a member of The Tempests (of "Look Away" fame) that I interviewed years ago, they were the backing band on the Fujimo Christmas single and I suspect the same of "Denny".

Hey Kip - I'm in the dark on this also. I talked to one of the girls several years ago and an acetate or tape unreleased was pretty firmly "no". I've never seen the fujimo, or been offered one, although I do have the Metropolis single, as well as the fujimo christmas 45. Those two other songs are a curiosity, but unless I get some confirmation of where they came from, I'll pass on the release.

Many years ago I was given a cassette tape that contained a number of unreleased Fujimo tracks. The quality of the tape was pretty bad and a number of the songs overlapped and segued into one another. A number of them sounded like they came from tape because they were somewhat phasey in spots. The "Send Him Back Home To Me" track was on there so I suspect it exists somewhere. This tape has always been a source of frustration because there are some major gems on it but the sound quality is so terrible! I have never been able to track down the origin source on it, either. I have talked to the one surviving Fujimo label owner and the only tape he still had in his possession was the original half inch three-track Falcons recording session tape. (spelled Falkons on the 45 label). He loaned it to me and I had it professionally transferred. The cassette tape I was given years ago contained unissued material from the Tempests, Dukes, Shades, Falkons and Swingin' Stingrays. Man, if that stuff could ever be found and preserved....!

I have an acetate LP of an all-girl group The Shades, which I found in the Fine Recording Studio (Rochester) remains. Nothing special, I think it's all cover versions of various mid/late 60s standards. Nothing worth my time to transfer to digital, in case you're wondering...:nope:
