Should I make a change to G45Central?

I too don't like the idea of seperating the US scene from the rest of the world. 60s garage, especially from Netherlands, South America, Australia etc. should be right there together with the genre defining US stuff. There is too much nationalism going on anyway. Not here, generally I mean. Music should not be treated like that. Especially as the origins of this music are equally British as US.
Also, I think, the way it is now, to seperate 60s garage from non-garage and non-60s music makes totally sense. People on here are interested in rockabilly, heavy psych, hardrock, 60s pop, whatever, which is good and interesting, but is better not mixed with the garage stuff. Unless you want to keep such topics out of the forum completely.
What is a bit confusing, maybe, are the names of the two forums. Especially "The way it used to be" is a bit misleading. It's even the title of a garage song. Maybe another name would help to make things clearer...?

Yes, maybe just a renaming of the two existing areas. Also would hate to distance Canadian and Mexican garage groups from the U.S. ones, as they were part of the same '60s D.I.Y. wherever you are outbreak.

I've been thinking about making a change to the forum structure. Originally, the idea was for 2 forums, one for 60s garage (Country Club) and the other for everything else (The Way It Used To Be). However, over time it has really just turned out to be 2 identical forums handling virtually the same stuff. Which is ok, but a bit confusing for anyone new to G45Central.

What if we changed to one forum for the USA, and one forum for the rest of the world? Would that be better?

I'd like to hear opinions, and will take them into account. But I won't promise that the majority voice will win. Maybe the best argument should win.

I always tought that "the Country Club" was about original US bands 45s and that "the way it used to be " was about any other topics about other 45s.

As I expected, there are solid arguments for all 3 options (staying the same, combining into one, and splitting into regions). But I do tend to agree with Axel's reasoning. That is, to leave things as they are, but change the forum names to something far more obvious.

How about these two forum names:

'60's Garage Sounds

Everything Else

Yes.

I think I'll just change it, and if it turns out to be unpopular, I'll either run and hide, or change it back!

Definitely clarifies things. Sometimes simple is better...

Hm... Does that mean that other 60s musical genres, like psych, bubblegum, folk rock is in the "Everything Else" category? My point is that there might be some crossing over... Like, a discussion about "Bull of the Woods" or "Mass in F Minor" would fit in "Everything Else" but "Psychedelic Sounds of..." and "Too Much To Dream" is in "60s Garage Sounds"...?

Well, maybe it's not that big a deal.

Well, it's simple. If anyone accidentally posts a topic in the wrong forum or makes a wrong judgement about genres, they will be automatically and permanently expelled from the site. Or heavily fined.

So I don't think there'll be a problem.

:D

Hahahah...as the Guv'nor of G45 you should reduce that person's trophy points to NIL

With that penalty I choose for one forum about Dutch garage and one for the rest of the world!

Yes, but don't worry I'll be hard but fair.:bucks!:

When I saw the dollar signs in the smiley face it made me think of this character diving and swimming in his bank vault.

.. and where would you put brit bands who mostly played the US (like the LIverpool 5), or yanks who found fame in Old Blighty? ... I suggest leave everything like it is or just make it one sole forum

Mark -

With the recent decline in new topics being posted & the large number of newer members, I think changing the format would be a detriment. My opinion for whatever it is worth -

But what about those infidels that insist on calling music from other countries than the US and Canada for garage? Suddenly we have posts about UK freakbeat in the midst of the hot US garage topics. Or Kiwi beat. So it really won't solve anything. Unless the guilty parties are banned for life of course.
