STRANGE WORLDS #6 (Forum Comp) ...out now...

Hi guys,

it's been a whopping 9 years since i assembled Strange Worlds #5, so I'm happy to share the news that a new volume is out.

Things have changed a bit:

All the prior volumes have been uploaded to youtube or other sides by people who deemed those comps share-worthy. While this is a good thing, I still don't want this volume to end as a stream on the internet. I want it to be a real physical product.

This is why the new volume will be out only as a cd, in a nice cardboard sleeve filled with info, pictures and label scans.

It's a professionally printed product. I made 40 copies, and when they are gone, they are gone.

If you haven't tuned into prior volumes, just some quick info: Un-comped, mostly moody ca. 1964 to 1967 Teen Beat from the USA.

How do you get one? You only cover the expenses for the printed jackets, printed cds and the postage and send it to my paypal ([email protected]). Please include your address.

There's no money made from this, I'll just cover the expenses, so, in my mind, this does not qualify as a "boot", but a forum comp cd.

Fee: €6 within Germany, €7 Worldwide. Everything is covered in this slim price tag. I think it's acceptable.

Won't reveal the track list, but be sure there are only GREAT tracks on this one. It took me 9 years, so there's no room for "ok tracks".

Thanks for reading!

Capn' Salty, I recieved the cd today in California. Thanks a million! Looks killer! Haven't got around to listening yet but I'll post something when I do. One improvement that could be made for the buyer! I consider myself somewhat knowledgable when it comes to cds (15,000 so far) and the different types of packaging they come housed in. (jewel cases, cd wallet, digipac, mini lp etc.) I understand why you used a cd wallet instead of the much preferred jewel case. I totally get it from a cost and shipping standpoint. Pretty much all my cds that come in cd wallet like yours get scratched each time they are pulled out, even the very first time. For some reason cd-r's (like yours) scratch way easier than pressed cds. I was very careful to pull the cd out the 1st time only to find it had lots of light hairlines and 100s of pin prick type marks. I am not complaing because I knew this would happen when I ordered it from you. I've been buying clear inner cd sleeves by the 100s in the past few years and these seem to help but still add lots of light hairlines to the playing surface. Recently I've starting using these stick on clear hubs (links below) There are 3 different types of clear hubs shown below. They need to be the clear type so the artwork can still be read through the hub. The ones I have now (see 1st pic) work great but I discovered 2 different types from ULINE and they look to be a bit smaller and easier to see the artwork through the hub. I have samples of each being to me this week and I'll decide which one to buy when I recieve it. The 1st 2 pics I'm posting are of your cd wallet with a cd on the hub and without the cd on the hub. The ones from ULINE have a smaller diameter and are solid pieces with no spindles to break. These stick on hubs will work with cd wallets that have gatefolds. The hub I used on yours in the pics can also be used on digipacs if the inner hub spindle/spindles break. All you have to do is break of all the spindles off, then center and stick the hub to the existing tray. The hubs are designed in a way so the cd playing surface does not make contact with the cardboard cover. I have 100s of CD wallets and I'm in the process of adding CD hubs to all of them. Once again, thanks for the cool cd! Pics and links will be in the next post.

by the way, your cd wallet still closes cleanly and takes up almost the same amount of space width on the shelf.

Sadly, even the major labels like Capitol Records have abandoned quality control for CD packaging. I recently bought
an expensive (name withheld) box set 'new and sealed' from Amazon and four out of the five discs were scratched
and scuffed...one actually was unplayable. Good luck trying to re-sell that 'doorstop' online or in a used record store.

Good news and bad news, The good news is the cd is killer. The bad news is tracks, 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,17,18 all have major digital glitches (fucking cd-rs!!!) and are pretty much unplayable. I should be able to copy them to my hard drive and then burn a new cd using a super high quality cd-r. What's weird is usually a cd-r won't go bad for a number of years but this one's already toast. bummer.

I'm curious about the music contained within. From the title I am guessing it is more on the psych side of garage and not so much with the 3-chord snotty punkers or folk punk. Is that assesment correct?

Many thanks, Captain Salty. My copy arrived yesterday and I have just played it for the first time. It is very good. I had no replay problems.

Thanks again.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for not answering. I didn't even monitor the thread on g45, as 99% of the cd requests were on the facebook page.

Frantic, thanks for the detailed feedback! Will try to take it into account when i do a new volume!

Haven't heard from others with any problems. I was very careful when burning, labelling and inserting the cds into the package, trying not to make it touch any kind of surface.

Hope yours is the only one that glitches. Can send you the raw files if you have problems!

I still have about 5 copies or so. jeffs11375, sorry for not getting back, will pm you!

I'd say it's mostly Teen Beat, but on the moody and melodic side. No punkers. no real psych.
Will post a tracklist, it's not supposed to be a secret:icon_lol:

It may be a screw-up on my side. I'm using my 10 year old mac as a burner..

By the by...Since my disc was defective and I had to copy the songs to my PC and then burn a new cd. Before burning, I carefully took out the pops and clicks.

I've listened many times to the CD now and it really is a moody gem. Being a sucker for female vocals, the two tracks by The Generals are standouts for me. How were they overlooked for the zillion volumes of Girls in the Garage?
