Thanks for sharing. I visited the page and saw the download page. However, upon clicking, I could not find a download link. Am I doing something wrong?

What a find! I'm sure somebody will eventually end up throwing the songs on boob-tube.
They already have—that’s how I found them. Thankfully, the guy that posted a handful included the name of the compilation. Google quickly got me to the download page. I never expected to find 100 or songs, however.

This is amazing!

It's interesting that some songs sound very close to the studio recordings, while others sound "livelier" ... For instance; The Chessmen - "I Need You There" is a scorcher!

greenfuzz, thanks for sharing your find to the forum.

Michael W, Thanks for pointing me in the right download direction.

Boy this sure is embarrassing. Above I praised the "live version" of I Need You There. I just did a side by side comparison. Most (if not all of you) probably know what's next (both are studio and identical). In my defense (or better put "to save face" ha! ) my first introduction to the song was in 1989 by a group called "The Brood" which is a more subdued version.

It's weird! When I heard this last night, I was thinking to myself that the Chessmen really know how to rock out when live. If I didn't to a side by side comparison, I would have sworn up and down that it was different than their 45.

Bud Buschardt's archive unleashed - Sundazed had a single cd comp in their Psychedelic Microdots series of live material from Sumpin' Else with most of the tracks from The Elevators. I wonder how the archive landed where it did - it's an impressive collection.

I have Bud’s Sump’n Else book and it lists several performances not included in these archives. I wonder if they still survive.

There were TWO different mixes/masterings released of The Chessman "I Need You There" (Bismark) 45 and both are on the stock yellow label.
If I remember correctly the first pressing is cut hotter with a more 'guitar-forward' mix , and the re-release is slightly less driven/more balanced to the point where you actually notice the bass guitar in the mix (this version is the one with a "RE-" prefix in the dead wax). Both are from 1966.
I'm not sure which mix was used for the later 21st Century bootlegs/reissues. I've never had the 1966 white label promo version so I'm not sure which version was used for that release either. Anybody here have a copy that they can check?
