As for the contents of the tapes, if you're familiar with Huey's labels then you know what to expect. Tons of blue-eyed soul, swamp pop, teen ballads, soul, Jimmy Donley, Barbara Lynn, Tommy McLain, Freddie Fender, Cajun, C&W ... very, very little of what we would recognize as rock and roll. Huey really didn't understand rock music post-1964 and generally ignored it.

Any chance of Bill Quinn or Bob Shad era acetates in the plans ? I also believe Quinn did a number of Starday (pre-Nashville) sessions there as well.

I've checked my collection and I've noted that he produced records by Gaylan Ladd, Gene Ricky & The Swingers, Greek Fountains, The Hombres and Yesterday's Obsession.

The Starday tapes do survive, but they are in Nashville, presided over by a worthless slug named Moe Lytle.

Meyers won't delve into Meaux's dark side, other than to say that Meaux took the fall for some bigwigs higher up the music-industry food chain when he was arrested in the 1970s and charged with sex crimes.
In that case, Meaux was convicted of violating the Mann Act in 1968. It was proven in court that Meaux brought a 15-year-old girl across state lines for immoral purposes; rumors have long swirled that some of Nashville's top record execs enjoyed her favors.
"He took the fall," Meyers says. "When he got out of prison, there was a new Cadillac with $10,000 cash in the glove compartment waiting for him. Nobody ever explained who that was from."

This is just complete and utter bullshit. Huey didn't "take the fall" for anyone. He knew exactly what he was doing back in '65: take a teenage girl to the Nashville Disc Jockey Convention, use her as a prostitute, and hope that resulted in more airplay and promotions. This was probably fairly common practice in the music business ... it's the side that we don't hear about. Hits just magically happened,so we're told. Huey got caught; most of the others didn't.

Anyway, Huey inspired a lot of loyalty from many of his artists, so it's no surprise that they would make excuses for him. It's still pretty pathetic to see people still defending him even after his second conviction in '96.
