Some of this is obviously taken from the "Sixties Garage Band Home Movies".
Anyway it's a nice edit and some of it maybe unseen.

Anything cool been unearthed recently as far as home movie action goes?

I troll YouTube and find something new every couple of weeks. Most of it is unknown groups and not too exciting, but I log the info anyway. There was a recent 8mm find of Thee Midniters performing on the beach during the Groovy TV show from '66, and I hope to obtain that footage soon. I can't think of anything else really cool off the top of my head.

The fun is in the search - I've been slowly building up a stash of NOS audio tubes, and I spend a lot of time combing through Ebay listings and going through piles of tubes in junk stores. After a dry spell, I hit a tube caddy with a handful of nice stuff.

From what I understand, "Groovy" footage is pretty thin on the ground at this point so this constitutes a pretty big find.

There's something like a 5-second clip (with the Merry Go Round seen for a second) from Michael Blodgett's personal demo reel. That's all I've ever seen from Groovy. The Thee Midniters footage is silent, and filmed from a passerby...

Would you know if anything along the lines of complete episodes survive, even if in private collections?

I'm not aware of any complete episodes of Groovy. I know Domenic Priore searched for a long time for surviving shows but, to the best of my knowledge, he came up dry.

Groovy? What's the scoop on that show?

It was a Los Angeles-based show hosted by Michael Blodgett. It was mostly filmed outside on the beach, and it featured top name acts along with local groups from the area. I think most of the bigger "garage bands" from the area appeared, such as The Yellow Payges, Merry Go Round, Leaves, etc. It would definitely be "Holy Grail" material if footage is around somewhere.

Speaking of YouTube...here's the cool find of the week: The Minutemen, from Keltone Records:

This is what the guy posted on YouTube:

The Minutemen were a Rock Group from the mid 1960s. It was a pretty tough time for a new artist with the Beatles and other British groups controlling the airways. The group did well and managed to reach 38 on the Billboard 100 in 1964. The group recorded for the Keltone Record label and was produced by the owner, Fred Bonamici.

This video and recording was edited from a Super 8 video from the era. Some crowd video was removed and additional video of the Minutemen replaced it. It was created for a live effect from a wonder period in music. My thanks to the Bonamici family for providing this long lost video for me. I am Ed Craig, the organ player.

You can learn more about the Minutemen and hear other recordings at this link. http://www.spinthegroove.com/2011/03/spartans-i-wont-be-taken-who-told-lie.html

NOTE: The Minutemen was a name change when the band was reorganized in 1964. Ed and Gary Craig were the remaining original Spartans.
