The Crees 4 acetate

It's great. It sounds sped up to my ears especially noticeable just before the amazing lead break (nothing wrong with that, common practice at the time). The singer's true vocal tone can be heard on the other track, which is also excellent.

I don't like the cover design..I voiced my disagreement but was over-ruled.
The front image has been doctored by an award winning graphic designer hired by Mojo-Bone. He stated that the original snapshot was subpar (not great quality). It was the only surviving picture of the original 4 teen lineup that recorded both songs on the acetate. This lineup did not last much longer.
For some artistic reason (I think it has more to do with ego of the graphics guy than anything else) the image of the guitar player on the far left of the polaroid photo was deleted, and replaced with a much later image lifted from the Crees promotional picture circa late 1967 / early 1968. It obviously looks like it was merely pasted upon the original image.
The over-saturated colorization notwithstanding, I feel manipulating the original snapshot image is not period authentic, something I wanted for this release (that was years in the making, it had been planned to come out on another label but the project did not happen).
I will probably make my own sleeve. I can do a much better job.

I could create that cover in photoshop with 1 or 2 clicks. But then I would delete it because it sucks!

Mike, what images will we see in the forthcoming issue of the UT magazine?

Not sped up, I transferred the acetate analog to CD before sending it off for remastering, just so I could compare the finished product to the unaffected source. The remaster is improved overall; I only noted a slight alteration one would never notice unless you compare digital output readout for each digital file. We tried to find the master tape, reportedly had several takes of each song, but it has been lost.
If you want to talk about obviously sped up reissued 45s I cite "By The Whey" by the Weads. Sounds "pitched up" to the max!

I hope Mike Stax places the original Crees 4 polaroid snapshot on the cover of the next Ugly Things,as it is a color picture.
Mike Dugo, my longtime pal and flag-waver for a Crees reissue sent along a batch of Crees promo pics and snapshots he had obtained, those will be included in the article. However that lineup of five members was not the same lineup that recorded the songs, as I've mentioned.

I must admit that I did speed up one of the unreleased tracks on the SO COLD!!! CD that I released. It sounds much better now. Of course I wouldn't have done that if it was released, so the only one's who will know the difference are me and Alec. Oh, I also deleted a awful harmonica solo on 1 unreleased song on my UP FROM THE GRAVE comp.

you confuse artistic expression, with photo journalism... this was never a re-issue, but is a debut release,
stylizing record jackets is customary, and there is indeed, a psyche component to their sound. and a bit of intentional distortion, as well if the art does not suit you, i regret that. but it was certainly not greg's fault, he restored the photos, and i asked him to experiment with them and try to something cool, and arty... He worked hard, and co-operated closely with our team. when i saw this, i thought it might be a bit wild, but he, my wife, my partner, and myself; ( art director), all loved it... we still do, BECAUSE IT IS GOOD WORK ! Alec, Greg, Suzy, Adam, Grace, and I are proud of it
The band members involved; Elmer and Chuck were consulted and assured me they thought it was "fantastic", and i have the receipts... you should know mike, it's hard to make everYone happy. 7 out of 8 ain't bad... I'LL TRY TO DO BETTER NEXT TIME ! -BIRDMAN
